Like most, I am also fascinated by the wonders one can create with paper using origami technique. In this case a square gift box with a lid that makes use of a technique called unit origami - a new way of folding paper by joining parts to form final object. By using two patterns of paper and slotting the different ones together alternatively, you can create an attractive and striking patchwork effect, seen in this Gift Box.

You can check the entire free tutorial at http://www.pinkonnet.com/gift-box-diy

I can finally learn how to make one of these! A friend of mine, years ago, gifted me with a octagonal box made the same way, and it lasted a long time. I think it finally gave out after I managed to tip a glass of water on it, and well, paper is paper.

Can't wait to try out the tutorial and maybe finally gift her back.

Hi Gayle,

That sounds like a good idea! Trust me this gift box is really easy to make and once you assemble the base, you would get a hang of it and finishing the lid would be a piece of cake. You could make this gift box in 3 sizes as well....Hope this pic convinces you to try making the gift box...

Happy crafting...let me know your friend's reaction!
