I recently participated in a swap on Ravelry with a theme of "found objects." My partner likes mini-altars and saori weaving and other very cool New Age stuff, which was very inspiring. I didn't even know what this sculpture would be until I had my dining table littered with random bits and bobs I've picked up off the filthy, dirty ground Tongue

The base inspired the whole piece. It's actually the heel of a little girl's shoe. The wood piece I found in the back yard ("my" men never clean up after their projects...). The kitty is quartzite, the moon is either shale or sandstone, with a piece of mirror, a strange bit of metal and a shard from a broken plate serving to hide the joins and keep the sculpture stable.

Weird, but interesting.
I, too, pick up things off the ground and fashion them into various projects.

I like it!  Did you carve the cat or were the stones naturally shaped like that?

Thanks for the positive vibes, everyone! I'm glad I'm not the only one constantly putting weird things in my pockets Tongue

The kitty is two quartzite pebbles that just happened to vaguely resemble a body and head.

I like your use of "gleaner" as a word...I consider myself a "recycler" and clean up the land for what really didn't belong there  Grin This crafted item was really a great project of re-use, to make something special out of what most people would consider "junk". I love it. I wondered about the kitty thing, too. Interesting to note. I have started collecting heart shaped (natural) rocks for a shadow box.
