Class: Divination
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name:
Maneki Neko ATC
Brief Description:

From wikipedia.org:
Quote
The maneki-neko (literally 'beckoning cat') is a common Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman), usually made of ceramic in modern times, which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. The figurine depicts a cat (traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—often at the entrance—in shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses.

Maneki-neko can be found with either the right or left paw raised (and sometimes both). The significance of the right and left raised paw differs with time and place. A common belief is that the left paw raised brings in customers, while a right paw brings good luck and wealth, although some believe the opposite, or that one paw is for luck and the other for wealth.

My own observations would suggest, however, that the raised left paw indicates good fortune in crafting (and also safe postal delivery).  Cool

Project Picture: (I really have to start taking pictures during the day, outside.  Inside my craft room, I have to take pictures from such a sharp angle to avoid casting a shadow. Anywho...)

    Project Name: PIGgy Bank
    Project Page Link: Right here
Brief Description: In my study of muggle money, I discovered that many muggles keep their money in "piggy banks."  The only Pig I know is Ron's owl, so I decided to make a bank in his likeness.  It's mostly papier-mâché around an old pill bottle.
    Project Picture:

There's a magnet in his beak that holds the envelope (which has a large needle in it).  I put contact paper on the envelope so it can be used as a mini dry-erase board where you can write down what you want to save money for.

Thank you!  Woohoo; this is exciting.
I've been a member of craftster for quite a long time but when I got a new computer I lost all of my bookmarks and couldn't remember the name of the group, lol.  I have to learn how it all works all over again  Grin.
I'll go read everything again now.
    Take care,
    Kat

Hi Kat.  Welcome to the HPC!  You can join at any time, so don't worry about not finding us sooner.  As for what House you belong to, our Sorting Hat lets YOU decide that.  Wink  So if you declare yourself a Gryffindor, then a Gryffindor you will be!  Be sure to read through the first page of this thread, which will explain most of how the Craftalong works.  If you have questions after that, please don't hesitate to PM Headmistress pinkleo AND myself (Deputy Headmistress).  Or, you can always ask a question here in the thread.  The other participants are very helpful, and many have been with us for several semesters now, so they know their way around the 'castle' quite well!  Cheers!   Cheesy

Hi, I'd LOVE to join the HP craft along; I just wish I would have learned of it sooner, as I've been busy working on Hagrid's  hut in plastic canvas, Hagrid in needle felt, and the Harry Potter characters in crochet (this past month).  I also just started sculpting HP minis in polymer clay for my Hagrid's hut.

Can I be in Gryffindor...or is everyone in Gryffindor, lol?

    Thanks,
    Kat

@Crafty_Kat:  Please do not quote pictures when responding to someone's project.  It is against Craftster's rules.  Thank you!  Smiley

How can we respond to posts without quoting, and is there a way to quote only part of a message and not all (like for, example, the photos of projects?).
