I need help. I am stuck at this part:

Step 1: Using US 9, cast on 42 stitches.

      Step 2: K3 (p2 k2) to last 3 sts, p3.

Step 2 makes no sense. There are not 3 stitches left to p3. 7 divides into 42 stitches evenly wth no leftovers.

I hope someone can help.

I'm probably overstepping here since I don't knit but I do love a challenge.
If I understand the "code" right, you need to:
Knit 3 stitches then pearl 2 knit 2 til you get to the last three stitches then finish off the row with pearl stitches which adds up to 42 stitches since you knitted three at the start of the row and finish with 3. Sorry if I'm completely off.

You only repeat the p2, k2 not the k3. That way you end up with 3 sts at the beginning and end of the row which when you seam up the item will result in another k2 p2 rib. The repeat is a multiple of 4 sts - 4x9 = 36 +3+3 = 42 sts.
