i'm trying my hardest to get this giant granny square afghan up and going. i've torn it out so many times because i wasn't happy with the way it looked. and i'm just unsure of what to do next. i have good tension, i turn every row so it doesn't twist. but its still not completely square. any ideas?

Are you counting your stitches and sure you're not picking up/dropping any stitches? And putting the required extra stitches in the corners? If yes to all those things I would say just keep going ahead and blocking at the end will smooth out any little waviness.

i've noticed that most giant granny square blankets are twisted/ not straight. is there anyway you think to acheive the straightness without blocking? i have the same number of stitches  on all sides. i just feel like it looks dumb.

I don't think it looks nearly as bad as you think it does. We're all our own worst critics. I think most larger projects can benefit from blocking.

It will naturally be a little off. It is handmade not machine made. If you block it, it will more likely straighten out.
I never turn when I make my giant grannies A quick wash in the machine and air dried takes care of it.
