Some 4 years ago, my daughter asked for a "Panda Hoodie". She'd even shared a link to show what she meant. She loved the idea, but she wanted one made by her Mummy.

Between procrastination and intimidation, I put it off until last month.

What intimidated me was the shoulder band on the back. I wasn't sure how I could make sure it was even all the way across.
Finally, I figured out that if I made it to the under-arm it would be broad enough, and even.
My fabric that I'd picked out for it was the perfect "ripeness", just right-aged.

So, even though it was after Christmas, I cut it out and put it together.

On Friday, I mailed it off. I didn't realize it was a statutory holiday today (Family Day). I was frustrated, because now that it was done, I wanted it THERE already!

She did get it today (stat holiday or no). I was so excited.
Once she opened it, she texted, "omg no way!!"
Then, she sent pictures.

Her from the front (note the black sleeves)

Her with the hood up (little black ears)

And the back view (black shoulders and a little black tail, down the bottom)

Now that it's done, and received, I'm very pleased and proud.

What do you think, Craftsters and guests? Worth being proud of?

Cute! I have a son who loves Panda Bears. I should make something similar for him. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Meleriffic.
I used Kwik Sew 3028 (which is a men's size pattern)
I hope it works well for you.

A couple notes:
1. The ears are just 2 half-circles, bent in half, put actually fairly close together on the top of the hood.
2. A panda bear actually has a white tail. But,if you gave it a white tail on this, it wouldn't show up, so I just made a black tail instead. (As you can see, it's just a triangle.)
3. If you look online at pictures of panda bears, their front "arms" are definitely black coloured. That's why I gave it black sleeves.

Enjoy.

Thank you, alwaysinmyroom.
Once it was finished, it turned out being cute.
(It was just the shoulder black band that held up its creation)

Pandas have been in the news a lot lately...they are just so adorable and maybe it will also bring some attention to saving their natural environment so we can have them around a long time...

I think making the little tail black was a good idea...or else it might have looked like just and extra piece of fabric sticking out!  You have to take some creative license!  Your daughter looks so happy!!!

I think she is quite happy about it. (She had asked quite some time ago for it.)

She says it's a few sizes too big, but I din't preshrink, so it'll likely lose a size or two the first wash.

Part of the happiness of it is she has gotten the nickname "Panda" since moving to the city (Vancouver BC) I have no idea why. (I read a meme once, "Fight the 'ism's like a Panda. They're Black AND White AND Asian AND chubby."  Cheesy )

Looking for poly-clay earrings: one bacon, one fried egg. Also, a mishmash of red/orange/gold bracelets--beaded, braided, bangles, whatever! If you have the supplies, let's talk! (Please?) I'll swap all kinds of things in return!
