made this for a fellow military wife who just had a baby girl:)

she had said she didn't have a specific design or colors in mind but she wanted it to be fun and bold. one of my fave color combinations is aqua and red so while perusing one of my favorite quilt shop websites i saw the "Flirt" by Sandy Gervais for Moda and knew it would be perfect. i added in some pieces from her husband's uniform, a gray chevron print, and a few aqua and red prints from JoAnn that I've had in my stash since Black Friday last year. I also love chevron and herringbone patterns in quilts so I went with that and added in some white to break things up and add some contrast.

This quilt included 2 firsts for me:
my first time hand quilting (I used crayola marker to lightly draw some hearts and I used pearl cotton)
my first time hand sewing binding (i've only ever done binding once on a previously posted quilt and did that by machine and it made me nearly punch myself. found a tutorial online for hand sewing and it was so easy and quick that I'm itching to make another quilt just so i can bind it! lol!)

so needless to say the fact that i finished this with minimal needle pricks and curse words is quite an accomplishment for me;)

hope you enjoy and happy crafting to you all!

This is such a great quilt! Love the BDU details. Such a modern way to incorporate the military into a gift.

Thanks everyone for such sweet comments! Smiley it's definitely my favorite thing I've made and all the little ladies at the local fabric shop were right:
