I made this as a gift for my husband (and as a craft for the nerd games Smiley).  I recorded myself saying "I love you", then used free software to be able to see how the sound waves looked.  I transferred the image to a canvas to make a very personalized piece of wall art!

This is amazing! My sister in law is an audiologist and something like this would be the perfect Christmas present!

I'm impressed!  What a perfect gift for your husband and if you don't want to explain it to anyone, it's a secret only you two will understand.

Hot damn, I love this! What a fantastic idea--such a versatile gift for so many different people. I'm thinking how much the grandparents would love something like this of something my daughter says. Would you mind sharing the name of the program?

Which transfer technique did you use?  I'd image getting all those lines so perfect might be difficult!

Looks amazing, and I love the idea.

Great!
For anybody seeking a program to do this: audacity. Available for Linux and Windows and free.

Yes, I used audacity, then measured out the individual waves and scaled them up to fit on the canvas, transferring them by hand using a ruler and a sharpie Smiley

Thanks for the nice comments.  I plan to use this idea for future gifts as well Smiley

I have boxes of vintage piano music.  Some as old as 1890's!  PM me if you'd like some!

...I could also envision this as a kind of embroidery, where you print the soundwave, tack it to your hoopla, stitch through the paper and rip it off at the end.

so pretty!  i love the way it looks. very cool and modern!

i do something similar, but i cross-stitch the soundwaves onto aida fabric (like this one, which i made for my mom).

another option for any mac users interested in creating their own soundwaves for crafting is garageband. i record right into the program and then screenshot the resulting soundwaves to create my patterns. (they're perfect for cross-stitch because the soundwaves come out kinda blocky and pixelated).  Smiley
