I'm relatively new to Etsy (opened in mid-August) and have yet to make my first sale.  My budget for advertising is essentially $0, so I'm having to rely on all the free advertising from social media -- I have a Facebook fan page and a twitter, and I want to set up a blog soon.

I've used social media extensively to promote my writing, so I have that down pat and I'm doing well from it, but I'm finding out Etsy is a whole other can of worms.

What works best for you seasoned pros?  Do you use social media?  If so, how, and what kinds?

Thanks in advance for the advice!  Smiley

honestly For me. My facebook fan page gets no updates and no visits from people. Even when it was new.
Family joined but that's it.
I've found my best choice to be cross posting my pictures of finsihed items to my profile on facebook as well as my blog/twitter. I've gotten a lot of interest and a few sales this way.
I also have no money for adds yet though I'm hoping to get to the point where I can buy some soon.

Definitely incorporate social media to promote your shop - even if it's only a fan page on facebook. I have gotten many a sale from someone who found me on facebook. I also blog regularly and run giveaways on a semi-regular basis.

I haven't opened my shop yet but I plan to use my current blog as well as instagram to promote my store.  I follow number of other blogs that do something similar  - they post to show progress on items they are making and by the time they actually finish the item and post it in their store people can't wait to buy it because they've just seen it being made.
