I like to make blankets for wedding gifts.  It started three years ago when I was living with Tiphany, and my friend Abby got married.  Now Tiphany is married, so she knew there was a blanket coming.  Tiphany remembered how much time was spent on that scrabble afghan, so she told me I didn't have to give her the blanket on her wedding day.  Well, she only gave me six weeks notice, so it definitely wasn't going to be done by then.  There was a lot of planning just trying to decide what to do, so I actually didn't start crocheting until after the wedding.  But once I started, that pretty much consumed all my free time for six months.  I finally finished and gave it to her this weekend (just in time for her birthday)!  She's very happy with it.  I'm very happy with it, so I thought I'd share it with you.

I usually like to take the picture from the upstairs landing, but the blanket was a little too wide for my foyer.  The picture below is that view, but before I blocked the edges.  (I didn't have room anywhere to block the whole thing.)

Most of this is my design, but I used http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bmp for the red invader:

and I used http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/space-invaders-chart for these two invaders:

The blanket is about 91.5" long x 81.5" wide.  I used about 17.85 skeins of Simply Soft black, 1.9 skeins of Simply Soft white, 1.5 skeins of Simply Soft limelight, and just a handful of Simply Soft red.  Before the border, it was all tunisian simple stitch.  The border is 3 rows of black sc, 2 rows of green sc, and one row of reverse sc.

Here's the back.  I didn't really try to straighten it out because I was a little tired of taking pictures.  Although, trying to straighten it for the first picture just ended up distorting it a bit.  I would try to move the whole blanket, but I was only moving the edge I was holding.

Thanks for looking!

Love it so much, every single detail is perfect! And the pixel-y look works perfectly in crochet.
