Nerding along...

I've received crafts with machine embroidery on them in swaps, and I like them a lot, but they are things which are made from fabrics which have had designs embroidered on them by machine, they aren't just a piece of fabric with a machine embroidery on it.  So from my own personal point of view, a craft made from a piece of machine embroidery is a valid craft, but just a framed piece of machine embroidery borders on the lame, unless you designed the embroidery.  Does that make any sense?   Huh

Thanks kinda what I as thinking too. Although the napkins seem more like a real project for some reason. Maybe I'll just make all those plain design hoops when I finish all the prompts for August Smiley

I agree.
pishaw13... so if you used your machine to embroider those awesome designs, but perhaps pieced the fabric it goes onto first or use it as a patch on a bag or blanket it might be able to better stand alone as a crafted item. Do Something with the embroidered fabric that allows you to give it your own personal creative flair. Use someone else's design, but find a way to really own it! If you copied the design onto fabric to hand-embroider it you are adding your own touch because of the time that you physical put into it. Your stitches will also be uniquely you, like your handwriting, and even if you hand-embroidered the same image again, it would not turn out the same way each time.

Technically machine embroidery is an acceptable project, since there is a Craftster board for it.  If you figure out a way for the machine projects to take 30 minutes of hands-on crafting time, they may be submitted for the Nerd Games, too.  So maybe if you sewed the napkins you were machine embroidering (as an example), or added some beading and painted the frames for the machine embroidered hoops.  I feel like the time you take to set up the project in the machine, and change out the thread colors, could be counted toward the 30 minutes if you want, just not the actual time the machine is running, since it's doing all the work. Wink

Argh, my Research Project is frustrating me!  Though theoretically a swap item is a good opportunity for research, repeated failures can be scary if time is growing short!   Shocked

I decided to make some napkin rings to go with the napkins to make it more interesting. I swear I probably spent 30 minutes just changing threads though! Lol! But I'm happy with them! I'm hoping to post a few projects tomorrow, depending on how much I get done.

Oh, man! July totally kicked my butt, in terms of being able to get any crafting done. While I've completed 10 projects, I've got 16 more on the list. One project is a temporary fail-I brought a crochet project with me on the trip, and it is not coming out right (note to self: don't try out a new pattern in the car) so I need to see if I can salvage it in some way by turning it in to something besides what it was originally supposed to be. Ordinarily, I would just be able to frog it, but for a change, I decided to weave in the tails as I went instead of leaving them until the end as I usually do... and with the way I weave in tails, there is no taking that thing apart! I mailed the project home in a box, so I should have it back next week... perhaps a little distance from it will help me come up with a new idea for it...

I do have several projects that are UFOs, so it will be nice to finally check those off of my list! Okay, I'd best get a move-on if I want to get any of those projects done...

And... I still need to get my research project finished... So much to do!

I know how you feel craftADDchick. I was telling Bunny1kenobi today that I was freaking out because it was already the 5th and I don't have anything ready to post! Ugh. I feel so behind!! I have a couple things started though. I just need to get back to them.

I have a bunch of things planned, and even made a list, but today I only crossed off two items (out of 9), but I hope to finish two more before bed (one will definitely get finished). Sadly, none of these things count towards the games. But, if I don't turn off the alarm tomorrow morning, I can get at least 1 thing started before my dentist appointment!

Here's why I love being a part of the nerd games... I was bored today so I took a break and starting thinking vaguely about how I was going to fulfill the remaining prompts (since my goal Is to do them all this season) and inspiration hit me on a project that made me really happy and really excited! It's kinda silly and won't mean much to anyone else, but the quote has a lot of fond memories for me. I'm just happy that I have this craftalong to motivate me because  I know I would not have started it without the nerd games. So yay!

Also, I have 3 projects to post, but like I mentioned before I don't have a computer so I can't post pics on my kindle. Good news is that my mom is most likely giving me her old computer when she drops off her dogs at my house for their 3 week vacation in September! Haha!

I have a job interview tomorrow (so please send good vibes my way!) But hopefully I'll have  time to finish my new project tomorrow. If I get the job I'll have  less time to craft, but Lord knows I need to get out of the house and I need the money haha! But since this is the last time I will probably ever have this much free time, I want to use it making ALL THE CRAFTS! Anyway, I'm rambling. My bad! Happy crafting!)
