I found this Green Day shirt I got in grade 9...some 10-11 years ago  Shocked  and decided there may be some use left in it since it was still in great condition.  My style has changed since the old days though and a mens XL tshirt just wasn't seeming cool anymore, so I decided to pay attention to one of my first favorite bands by reconstructing the tshirt using a pattern I bought at Walmart recently (New Look 6405).  I am surprised that it actually turned out looking like it's supposed to and only took about 2 hours!  I am what is best called a novice sewer as I haven't done much of it and the only sewing class I took was a dozen years ago...

Anyways, here are my (crappy webcam)  pics!

The front

The back...well sorta, it's hard to get a good back picture yourself

Another action shot where you can see the binding I added around the bottom hem

Thanks for looking Smiley

That looks great!  Did you take the shirt apart first?  How much sewing was involved?

hey thanks for the response!

I cut the old tshirt up both sides and under the arms so that the sleeves were flat.  I laid out the pattern pieces where I wanted them (there were 5- the main front piece, the small front piece at the left shoulder, the back, and two sleeves) and cut them out...after that, I sewed the two front pieces to the back and added the binding around the neckline, then I sewed up the rest of the seams on the main part of the shirt adding the binding at the bottom last.  The sleeves were added at the end and were probably the most difficult part - I added the binding first then matched up the sleeves to the arm holes and sewed away.

Basically, it was just like sewing a shirt from scratch, but instead of some random fabric I used an old tshirt.
