Hello my fellow craftsters.
Craftster to me means an opportunity to be myself. I work in a very conservative profession, which definitely stifles my flair. When I try to bring up crafts, most people just don't understand why I would do it. Apparently, "because it's awesome" isn't a good reason and I should be taking up golf or racquetball or ...something. Somehow, using my hands to make great things that bring joy to myself (and sometimes others, but mostly myself) is not an appropriate use of my time.
Well, here's the thing: I stink at golf and the idea of chasing a little white ball all over ridiculously manicured grass is not something I find amusing. Also, racquetball scares me a little.
The facts: I love making stuff. Any kind of stuff. I like to use needles and thread most for sewing, costuming, and embroidery but I also like to draw, make greeting cards, and refinish furniture.
Other things I love? Female superheroes/villains that aren't wimpy knock-offs of male superheroes/villains. The chronicles of Narnia. Tacky 80s rom-coms. Baking my own bread. Star trek. The Muppets. Relaxing with a moderately warm cup of tea. Shakespeare. Bubbles. Playing saxophone. Things that look like robots. Monty Python. Making wookie sounds. Tiny dogs. Jane Austen. Singing in the shower. Sidewalk chalk. Jackie Chan movies. Pixar animation. Jumping in puddles. Peanut M&Ms.
I don't need to make excuses for any of these things on craftster. So I love it, too.
Hello, my name is Koombalai. Nice to meet you.
