Craftster means so many things, it was hard to narrow it down...wait a sec...no it wasn't!, because my favo thing about craftser is how it motivates me to play with stuff.  And that is part of the reason I love to use recycled materials, because I don't get trapped up in "Oh that thingy is too precious to use to make a FILL IN THE BLANK".  So, when I sat down to make the list of what I would do for each challenge (not that they all happened... real life just got in the way Tongue) I knew I wanted to make something for the recycle/reuse board.  But what?  I shifted one of my piles of potential around ("normals" would call me a hoarder...) to see what fell out and low and behold, I found my prey....

Once upon a time, I posted a many eyed goldfish I made from a paper clay cast of a plastic container of a large rubber gold fish...My kitchen is fish inspired and of course I have to have a mutant fish wall...see here...

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=421498.msg4998980#msg4998980

I liked it enough that I cast another fish...or tried at least.  I was impatient, and removed it from the mold too soon and it split at the spot the tail joined the body.  So, when I shifted the pile I was working on slightly to the left, and the body fell out, I had a light bulb moment.  It took a bit more shifting to get the tail to emerge, but emerge it did.

I had poked out it's eye already by the time I thought to take the pic, which is why it has it's new eye already...no eye fish was even creeping me out Grin

It didn't take too much thinking (thankfully, as it was rather hot at the time, and I can only tolerate so much thinking when it is hot...) to decided what to do.  So, first the body part...

I needed a tail for the body (clearly Grin) and I started to try to think of things that were reminiscent of a fish tail.  So, of course, the first thing I thought of was doll arms (if this confesses you, you don't know my work...).  So, after a lot of hot glue and several coats of paint, and a bunch of doll arms, please observe the Golden Arm Fish...

The Golden Arm Fish is a very rare relative to the Lion Fish.  It is not quite as deadly, but it is still best to stay away from it.  It has phosphorescent lips, presumably to attract prey.  This is the first of it's species to be captured.

Here it is with the original mutation..

So now, on to the tail....as it turns out, the tail fit perfectly over a Troll dolls feet!  You have no idea how happy that made me Grin.  And thus, after more hot glue and even more paint (with glow in the dark!) the Octomertroll was discovered..

Very little is known about this odd creature.  It was discovered in the deep sea, but it has characteristic of several deep sea creatures.  It has suckers along it's torso and arms, but it clearly has the tail of a fish.  it has several different types of photophores that respond to different types of light.  This may help the Octomertroll to function at different levels of the ocean.

It will take a bit more work to figure out how and where to hang it on mutant Fish Wall, but once I figure that out, he is ready to hang Grin

OMG!  I had so much fun messing with these poor sea creatures.  I feel just like a mad scientist some times Grin  And thanks for looking Grin

Your projects are just full of fun and....(I mean this in the most loving way...)...oddities!

The octomertroll is brilliant (and very, creepy, odd, cute, disturbing...all of the above)...

Love that you are doing a series for your kitchen...I am not sure I would ever eat fish at your house, though...Wink Grin

Excellent "thinking out of the box, bag, trash"...love them all, surreal....you rock!
