Here is my lastest work in progress. Its not finished yet but I think its coming along nicely. I saw this on a free pattern website and decided I jsut HAD to finally stitch something for myself.

I traced it out with pencil on a white on white cotton. In retrospect I prolly should have picked a different fabric, it was a real bear to get the pattern traced and depending on the light the pattern on the fabric can make it really difficult to see the traced pattern.

This is going to be a kind of sampler piece with every feather group being a different type of stitch. Im trying to expand my known by heart stitches.

So far Ive done satin, chain, split, back stitch, what I call long and short, Im sure its got a proper name but I dont know it, and fishbone which I just learned. Ive got an idea for which stitch I want to use for the hearts but since I dont want to repeat stitches I have no clue what Im going to do for the rest of the feathers.

Dose anyone know of a good website for stitches?

Mary Corbett's Needle n' Thread is a good site. If you scroll down on the page for the link below there is an "Individual Stitches and Techiniques" section that might be helpful.

It looks great so far, can't wait to see the finished product! Smiley

don't forget french knots! great for filler. They may be a little intimidating but once you figure out a way that works for you they are great.

Been making progress.  stopped for awhile because life got busy and then my dad died so i didint want to do anything. But Ive slowly been combing back and this was the first "for me" project I wanted to pick back up.

Close up of some of the stitches for the "eyes"
The french knots are killing me!!!!!  Grin

And the body

I still need to decide on the stitches for the swirly parts of the feathers. So far I havnt repeated any type of stitch.

Very pretty! I love your colors so far. Native American Indians believe the eye of the peacock feather to be the window to the soul. I think you picked a great project to jump back into yours.

And interesting to see the many stitch patterns you are using. I love the shade of orange you selected for the beak. It stands out wonderfully there.

And I love the hearts, and the little feet...neat project! And yes, french knots are a pain. But, they give such texture to a piece that they are worth it. Cheesy

Thank you, I started this project to teach myself more stitches by heart. I have this bright a** neon yellow im going to outline the eyes with, and a gorgeous shiny purple to do the swirly parts with just have to pick a couple new stitches to do them in.
