Hello!  I'm not really new to sewing, but I'm not confident in all my skillz.  Zippers still scare me.

I would like to make a button-down shirt for The Hubby.  Nothing off the rack fits him the right way and he would look smokin' hot in a customized shirt.  I know a bit of pattern drafting but drafting a shirt for him from scratch is intimidating.

I don't know all his measurements by heart, and since he's at work you're going to get what I know.  His shoulders, from edge of shoulder across the back to the other, is 18.5".  He has a 29.5" waist.  Also, his hips are really slim.  Basically the classic inverted V shape.

Is there a pattern anyone can recommend for me to start with?  I would appreciate something with short sleeves so I don't have to tackle a sleeve placket, but it would be easy for me to draft this change, so it's not necessary.  I'm also guessing I'll have to put some darts into his shirt, right?

Anyways, any advice would be helpful.  Thanks in advance!

Maybe poke around for a vintage pattern. I used one from the 70s that turned out nice. Sounds like you'll have to alter any pattern for his particular body, but I'd fit his shoulders first and foremost, or perhaps his chest, whichever is "largest" in the proportional scheme of things.

Try Vogue 8759  Mens shirt with short or long sleeves. It's labeled "easy" so it shouldn't be too hard, and has multiple sizes in each pattern so you can blend sizes for a custom fit
