This is a sculpture I’ve been meaning to do for a few years; I meant to have it done for Peake’s centenary in 2011, but being the slowest artist on the planet, I procrastinated.  As it is I consider this only a “sketch” and hope to either do another finished version, or what is more likely, continue to refine this one and have it digitally scanned and printed.  I probably can’t afford to mold and cast it, unfortunately.  And I won't be able to finish it any time soon because of my sculpting space being taken up by paying work.  Tongue  Sorry, Mervyn, I have to put a bag over your head and stick you on a shelf.  Roll Eyes

Mervyn Peake is best known as the author of the “Gormenghast” novels, but was also an illustrator, a painter, and a poet.  I wanted to depict him as a Poet, and was heavily influenced by his self-portraits.  He has been the largest influence on my creative life.  Smiley

I'm not familiar with Mervyn Peake or his work but your sculpture has totally captured him in poetic form!  This is spectacular Smiley

Your tenderness for Mervyn Peake is beautiful.

If he were still alive, he would be incredibly proud of your skill and more so, appreciative of the role you have played in encouraging others (in this forum) to consider his talents.

Thank you for sharing your loving memorial and I hope some day you will be able to get it cast.
