After trolling Pinterest, etc. for ideas in preparation for the upcoming Video Game craft swap, I decided to pick up some supplies at Michael's last week and try my hand at cross stitch for the very first time.  The results:

A little red Pikmin

Black Mage from Final Fantasy

Since those went pretty smoothly, I decided to try something slightly more ambitious.  A friend is having me over for lunch this weekend, and I wanted to make something for her two young children.  I did a small piece for each one featuring their favorite cartoon characters:

Doraemon for the boy

and Hello Kitty for the girl.

Oy!  These took waaaaaay longer (I think almost 14 hours total!), and I managed to make several mistakes along the way.  I also had to ad lib little sections of each, since the colors for the Doraemon pattern were messed up, and the Hello Kitty pattern was missing whiskers.

At the end, I got the idea to personalize the pieces with their names.  (For privacy's sake, I took progress shots so as not to show their full names.)

For the lettering, I searched on Google for a lettering pattern generator. (http://www.stitchpoint.com/eng/tool/alph/cross-stitch-writing-tool.php)

Hopefully, the kids will like them!

And these are your first ones?! They're fabulous! I love Pikmin the most, but I'm also obsessed with the games. :3
