Willing to personal swap for art of my doggies!

I made this recently for Whistley in the One Item Swap.  She listed Princess Bride as a theme to go with, and needlebooks as a want, and after doing a bit of stalking, I decided to try my hand at combining the two.  I came up with this idea in the middle of the night and it came together so quickly.  I just loved making it!

I wanted it to look a bit like an old antique book or journal, so I made the covers from leather, which I embossed.

The inside pages are made from felt, and I added a couple of little pockets to the inside covers for holding some extra floss or what not

I made etched and stamped brass plaques for the spine and cover, antiqued them, and riveted them to the leather before gluing the inside cover and pages in, and added a snap closure.

I loved making this, especially as I love making mini books of varying types - though this is extra large compared to some of the ones I made.  I just love how it looks like a little chunky journal.  It is about 4 inches high, about 3 and a half inches wide, and 1 inch thick.  I think I may actually make one for myself too - if not as a needle book, then at least as a little journal or something like that.

Here is a bit more about it on my blog

This is really great! And I like the idea of the little felt flap pocket. I'm going to have to copy that for my next needebook.

Thank you - I noted in my blog a couple of things I may try if I were to do this again which could be an improvement.  I had wondered if I had done the inside covers and pockets with a double layer of cotton sewn with interfacing if it may have a bit more body and be more durable (and then you could add a snap closure too), and also to add a flappy bit (yeah I'm not sure what it is actually called, but the accordion folded pieces on either side to allow the pocket to fold flat, but expand further if stuff was put in it).

This is fantastic! I love the brass stamped plaques. That's a fantastic detail and really does make it feel old and extra special.

Thanks.  I was hoping for that feel - I loved the combo of leather and metal.  I love how it looks like a journal.
