I saw the blanket on pinterest ( originally with no pattern in the link) and knew I had seen the stitch in my crochet stitch bible. My bible has gone missing so I don't know the name of the stitch, but never fear the original blogger put a tutorial on the stitch on her blog.
the heart is also from her.

the only problem I had was i feel it is off balanced since the top is on the diagonal and the bottom has a straight edge because of the chain. But I think not having a border is pretty nice too.
Enjoy!

This is fantastic! Love the unconventional rainbow of colors, and the pattern looks great! It looks simple, but makes a wonderful piece. Thanks for linking the pattern!

Such a nice blanket.  I know it must have taken quite a bit of time.  I did a baby blanket in that same stitch a few years ago, and had the same complaint about that starting edge.  But as I recall, I ended up turning it around and adding a few rows to that end, and it helped a bit.

Scholars and artists...differ most importantly in the way their knowledge is come by.  Scholars get theirs with conscientious thoroughness along projected lines of logic; poets...stick to nothing deliberately, but let what will stick to them like burrs where they walk in the fields.

Gorgeous blanket! I love the stitch you used and those big fat stripes! And I especially love the little heart surprise at the bottom.

Hmm...looks like the diagonal box stitch, only it's not diagonal. Whatever the stitch is called, it is a beautiful blanket.
