Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

« on: July 23, 2013 06:15:49 AM »

After making a customized bag for the awesome Jennieingram I got a random urge to keep making patches and went a little crazy. I think I got to about 115+ individual patches before I decided to start piecing bags together...well that and my fabric buckets were bursting at the seams with finished patches. It was very liberating to let my imagination wander and go crazy with it. Here's a bunch of finished bags, a few with specific themes and a bunch without. I also used some hand screen printed fabrics I received in the recent Printed Fabric swap, and installed magnetic buttons for the first time successfully!

The crafty theme, how could I have not done this before??

A second crafty bag, a little smaller, a little cuter?

Something a little spooky, all sorts of creepy type inspiration.

A bunch of random bags...

Hopefully I didn't just crash your computer.  Roll Eyes Enjoy!

Definitely so much to love!  Especially the "emergency button" and "better go in disguise" patches - those are my favorites. Smiley

Oh my thank you all for the lovely comments! I may have gone a bit overboard with the bags but I can't get enough of it  Cheesy

Haha, I think in feeding my obsession with making these bags I've given myself carpal tunnel. Thankfully it doesn't act up all the time; I just have to be a lot more conscientious about not overworking myself.

These are simply fantastic!  Do you have a tute somewhere showing how you make these?  I don't really sew but I do have a nice sewing machine that just sits there with nothing to do.

Thanks so much coocoosnest! I used this videos as a tutorial when I first got started

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Cm4RoEsgl0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt49UgGzy6k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=246iSNnS8So
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njd3J7ttslQ

Unfortunately to do it as the tutes show, there is very little room for machine sewing (believe me I've tried to think of the ways. But craftylittlemonkey made a terrific tutorial to create a similar effect with a lot more machine sewing.

Thanks for the links sheepB, this looks like something I could do.  And since most of it is done by hand and small pieces, it would be great to take along anywhere.  Thanks again for the links and the inspiration and wish me luck.  Grin Grin Grin

Oh my stars.... Those bags are just freakin' AMAZEBALLZ!!!!!

My biggest question though is, how do you make those handles/straps?!?!?!?!

I've started a few of these bags... well started making patches for the bags... but this is one thing that is just a huge stumbling block for me.... any and all tips are welcome and appreciated!!!

Aw thank you! It depends on how big the bag is but I'd average it at about 20 to 30 hours of work goes into each bag.
