My uncle is quickly losing his battle with cancer so I wanted to make him something special that would stay with him always. My husband and I had been on leave for 3 weeks so I started the first day I got home and finished the day we were headed out of town to our next duty station.

It's my first ever quilt and I'm incredibly proud of it. He loves the Detroit Tigers so I played off those colors and since I couldn't find any Tigers quilting cottons I used a pair of knit pj pants that I bought at Wally World. The back is fleece.

I used a tutorial from Red Pepper Quilts (do a google search for "Red Pepper Quilts A Quilt Without Binding) as a guide for how to quilt it and put the overall project together but pieced the top on my own:)

The first picture is the top laid out the way I wanted it before sewing it together

I didn't get a pic of it all spread out but I did get a pic of it folded up before putting it in the gift bag Smiley

What a thoughtful gift. You have done a great job with that quilt.

I have lots of train tickets (I get the train most days), if anyone wants some for papercrafting just send me a PM Smiley

What a beautiful and thoughtful gift, he's lucky to have someone like you.  And kudos on your first quilt!  My first quilt was so wonky and unsquare I was ahamed Smiley

Wow, a great quilt from the heart!  Looks like you learn and sew fast.  Can't wait to see your next one.
