I have long been intrigued with "drawing" done on the sewing machine, and have always had it on my "to do" list of things to learn more about.  Finally I just said - the heck with it -I'm just gonna give it a try!
This is Ma Rainey - a blues singer who was in her prime in the 20's!! She was a lady ahead of her time.
This was actually a lot of fun - my thread broke a couple times, but other than that it really was like drawing!

I've always wanted to give a try, too. This is your first try? It looks great! Very cartoon-y. Awesome.

Ma Rainey! I think you've captured her perfectly! This is really great for your first try. Did you have a free-motion foot on the machine?

Awesome! I can't believe that was your first try. Did you sketch it out first, or did you just wing it? Either way, kudos to you. I love it.

Thank you!   Cheesy
Wulf - I had a darning foot - I have a free motion foot but it was a little trickier to see what I was doing.  I tried it with no foot too -a little crazier - but it worked!
Racky, I sketched it lightly in pencil first and kept a photo in front of me while I worked just for some of the details like hair and jewelry.
I've already got a few thoughts in my head of some great faces I might try.

That is brilliant!  Very cool! I really like the sketchiness of free machine embroidery.
