Just wanted to share

My Big Sis picked up this purple 'tweed' skirt in the Xmas sales earlier this year. She loved the fabric and thought I could "make a bag or something" with it for her.

She asked if I coulod make her a bag big enought to carry either books or ring binders for when she goes to her writers event. She also asked if I could reinforce it so it would stand on it's own,

So I unpicked most of the seams, removed and re-used the lining & waistband, and re-sewed it in to this:

And here's where I re-used the satin lining:

To make it stand up I re-inforced the sides with pelmet vyline. It is a bit simple at the moment but I'm waiting to speak to her and see if she wants any thing decorative on the outside.

I bet it is quite sturdy!  Nice way to upcycle another item...good that you could also use the lining!

So cute! Great fabric and great job.

I recently bought a really good brown leather coat at Goodwill for $5. I bought it with the plan to turn it into some sort of bag, but it was such a good deal and such good quality leather I'm taking my time deciding what to do with it.  Your conversion project is motivating me to get busy! Smiley
