This is my very first post in this board! The Austin Museum of Art offers some really great art classes and I decided I needed a new hobby (what's one more!) so I took a beginning painting class. And I can say that I definitely learned alot, and am pretty obsessed with oil painting right now!

I've always thought that I was just not an artistic person and painting would be impossible but I really wanted to give it a shot, and it's just so much fun, hopefully my little beginner paintings can inspire someone else who thinks they aren't artistic but just really want to paint, you can do it too!

This one is my favorite so far, its my sister's dog Ransom, I painted this in my last class. I have some small issues with the ears, but overall I am pretty excited about how it turned out!
Original with the painting:

This is my cat Bertie, I based the painting on an instagram of him that was taken at a weird angle, where his face was right up near the camera and his body was kind of hidden underneath him. Original http://instagram.com/p/VV90LevJN-/

This is based on an instagram I took on vacation last month! I left out a lot of details to help simplify it, here's the original http://instagram.com/p/auAQHsvJBh/

and just for fun, paintings from my first 2 classes, I ran out of time on the landscape!

and this still life was a project using only grays! (mine is on the right)

Bravo for taking a leap!  Looks like you are having fun and learning a lot!

I love the perspective on your cat...it captures his personality and is uniquely your own style!

You can never have too many hobbies! It looks like you have a knack for painting. Are you the teacher's pet Smiley?

I really like the swimming pool painting.

Keep it up and keep sharing!

So wonderful seeing you take up a new medium, and loving it. It shows in the pieces you posted, too. Smiley

Thank you! I love that angle too, I just have to figure out how to better define the rest of him that is kind of lurking below his big head!

My favourites are the dog and the cat pictures, you captured lots of expression in them!  Isn't it cool when you try something new and it turns out fabulous Grin
