Breaking loved ones' sewing machines since 2013

A few weeks ago, I picked up a Speedball block printing kit while shopping around at Michael's.  I live in San Antonio, and am in love with the Pearl Brewery complex, which is a rapidly-growing and trendy place near downtown right now, so I chose the Pearl sign as the topic for my very first attempt.

This is the result, printed with the black ink that came with the kit on kraft paper:

You can see that my very first cuts were on the "l", which is a lot less smooth than the other letters.  Even though the cuts are not very skilled, I like the "in-lined" effect that parts of some of the letters have.  Here's another example, this time with red ink on scrap white cardstock:

(My printing techniques leave a lot to be desired still!)  For my second cut, I used a neon sign from the Can Plant building, also located at Pearl, as my inspiration.  Here's the source photo I took on my cell phone:

And here is the result, again on scraps of kraft paper and white cardstock, but with turquoise ink this time:

You can see where I nicked the upper-left side of the hexagon while cutting out the negative space around the print.  Lesson learned: probably smarter to cut out and AWAY from the center of the image, rather than towards the middle.  Tongue  Still, I am pretty proud of how they turned out!

Thank you all for the kind words! embercostumer - I think that when I have a few more designs in the series finished, I will give that tote bag idea a try!

These are great and I really love the theme you're working with. It would be neat to do a whole series of your favorite signs from around town. Keep it up!!
