So I really want to make myself a fabric art journal. But I'd love it even more if there were pages made by folks other than me included.

Each swapper could choose their preferred size and we would make one 2-sided page for each partner - however the groups work out. You could sew them together, like a mini quilt sandwich, but without finishing the edges. Batting or no batting - that would be up to the receiver.

The pages could be a mix of fabric, paper and other epemera. I see notions and buttons and trims and lace and photos printed on fabric and rubber stamping and silk flowers and zippers and snaps and charms and scraps of this, that and the other.

Whaddya say?

I think Id love something like this. Seems like a great stash buster too. Gonna have to go do some online searching to find some examples. Smiley

There is a YouTube video from a woman who just sewed a bunch of fabric samples together and then glued in tags she had received in a swap. Since I have bags and bags of decorator samples, I keep thinking of how to put them together. So that's one idea.

Another is to make a simple felt, muslin or canvas book and then stitch on the pages you receive. That way you can really control the size.

I'll think of some more - in the meantime, I might try a muslin or patchwork-y one this week to see if it's easy or hard to put them together.

After looking on Pinterest, Im def interested. I love all of the scrappy-ness! Im thinking of a scrappy tiny house themed fabric book...

I like the idea of making a "blank" book ahead of time and then stitching in the pages. Would this work if we did two sided pages though? Or do you mean sewing them into some sort of pre made binding

I hadn't thought that far ahead. I just got 4 small blank muslin or canvas journals on sale and thought I would put my 4x6 art in one. But yes, maybe we'll just make one page for each partner.

Oooh where did you find those at? Could even do 2 one sided pages per partner...depending on how many partners. Just throwing out ideas. Smiley

I'd DEF be in on this swap.  I love fabric journals and would LOVE to have one.  I know the girl that owns "the floss Box" has an embroidered fabric journal group of flickr.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/embroideryjournalproject/

But yep, count me in please!!! I saw some examples of a one sided page that had finished edges on 3 sides and the 4th side was left raw and ragged so you have some seam allowance there to either sew it into a book, or glue into an art journal or however you want to "bind" your pages.

I love this Idea. I saw the link & I'm loving all the Journals & things. I haven't done this before, but it looks very interesting. It would be hard to stop putting embellishments on it, so the recipient can do what she wants! But I love it!!
