Niether. Except at Christmas, which in that case Table cloth.  But day to day nothing is easier, because the kids are horrendously messy eaters. Much easier to wash the table then wash placemats all the time.

I prefer placemats but usually we have a table runner on our birchwood table

I'll swap for postcards, badges, maps or brochures from everywhere in the US! I'm an English teacher and always happy about authentic material for my classroom.

Neither. I don't use either.

Never thought about it, and not that interested. Seems like just another thing that would need cleaned or turn into a cat toy in some way. We already learned that we need to set up 4 chairs at the table if my husband and I both want to sit together. Otherwise every time we get up our seat is taken by one of the cats and we have no where to sit. Now at least we can move our plate and sit in the chair the vacated.

quaggy - great idea!  I love that!

I try to keep a tablecloth on, but my DH and DS tend to put them out of commission pretty quickly.  I have resorted to using vinyl ones for the holidays - I think I have a couple for each holiday now and then a couple nice ones. Smiley  We tried placemats, but that didn't work for us.

We don't use tablecloths or placemats. I like cloth napkins thought and I'd use a table runner! Kitchen is beige, white and mint.
