.  So my question to all you FOCs is:  functional art or art for arts sake, which do you prefer?

I love functional art. I strongly prefer usable items. Unless it is actual wall art. I like that. And its function  is art. So its not strictly art for art's sake. Ramble?

what she said - couldn't agree more.

Hhhmmm....I don't think I have a preference.  I like to have useful items but art for admiring is good too.

I prefer some sort of functional art, but I do love to keep a cabinet of artsy items too...and wall art...okay, I guess I like it all.lol

I am an either way girl.  Sometimes I even change art pieces up and find that by choice they can work either way.  Just by adding a decorative piece to something else can make it functional.

For the Check In question - I have tried to teach my boys to crochet, but it never caught on.  Hopefully Daysie will want to craft with me!!!  Grin

As for the art, I'm another one of those where either way would be awesome for me!

I prefer functional.

I find living art much more beautiful than something that is so fragile it has to be put way behind a glass to only be appreciated visually.

But I'm the kind of person who reads books/comics and plays with figurines rather than keep them in their original packaging.

I rather like functional items.
Although I have quite a few trinkets standing around in my home office but mostly items that remind me of something ... for example a little clown that I received as a present at the end of my internship in a kindergarten for handicapped children.
Wall art is different though - I'd count it among functional items.

I'll swap for postcards, badges, maps or brochures from everywhere in the US! I'm an English teacher and always happy about authentic material for my classroom.

I can't believe it's almost send outs time!

I like wall art purely as art, but our space is limited, so if it is something that takes up surface space, it should be functional too.  Especially as I am not a big fan of dusting.
