Our local Habitat Restore did a class a while back on painting carpet squares. My friend and I went to the class and we've been hooked on painting "rugs" ever since. The carpet squares are $2 each at the Habitat store and it only takes an hour or two to paint them. SO much FUN!

My favorite so far:

This one still needs something. I'm unhappy with how close the lettering is to the edge of the rug too...

A lovely idea. I never heard of painting on carpet tiles before.  What paint do you use and how do you set the colours?

It's just standard acrylic craft paint. We didn't set the colors - the paint sits on top of the carpet fibers and doesn't seem to fade too terribly, although they do wear off after a season or two of heavy use (about as long as a cheap seasonal rug from a big box store). I would imagine adding a fabric medium to the paint would help it last longer.

Love them!!  When I used to paint floorcloths, we would put many light, light coats (drying between each) of spray acrylic varnish on them.  They last quite long that way..  Grin
