I've made these before but I thought making this many deserved a post of its own.  I've been working on these since school got out in early June. Cheesy

Everything!  I thought the circle was a cool way to set them up.

Materials
2 Ping pong balls
3 toy wooden wheels
1 3/8" dowel rod
40 BBs per maraca
acrylic paint
imagination!

"Individual" shots.

Really cool!  I love the colors and patterns you chose and it's such a neat idea!

Those are really neat! When I saw the post over in the Nerd Games, I couldn't tell how big they were. I love that they're nice and small so they won't take up a ton of room to store, but I'm sure they are plenty loud enough! I had a pair of Maracas when I was a kid (for a dancing school routine, I think) and they were a lot of fun to play with! I could still have fun with them now, dancing around the house Smiley

To hold it all together, did you just glue the bottom and top wheels on, or did you glue everything on?

What a clever design.  I am sure these are a hit with kids.

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. . . . I would rather have cheese.

craftADDchick - there's a layer of Aleen's between each wheel and ping pong ball.  So, wheel, glue, ping pong, glue, wheel, glue...  etc.  Smiley  Each dowel rod is about a foot long.  We bought 3' dowels and cut them down then sanded the ends so nobody got scratched.

Thanks everyone for looking!

Hmmmm - I have the beginnings of a tutorial for these.  Interested?  That's if I can get it finished.  Wink

Oooooh! Yes! Because while driving around today (running errands in my air conditioned car... as opposed to sitting at home in front of the fan), I had an idea for a more fun way to teach conduction, convection and radiation by dancing... and maracas would make it even more fun!

I love these! Such a fun idea, I do wonder how you got the acrylic to stick to the ping pong ball.  I haven't had much luck in having it stick to plastic in past experience.
