I made several items for the Dollar Store challenge, but decided to enter this one: A tatted spiderweb necklace.

Dollar store items: sleeve of plastic bugs ($1), eye glass chain, (2/$1), white string ($1), sequin/glitter mix ($1)
Non-dollar store materials: a squirt of black enamel spray paint, glue, 4 jump rings, a liberal dose of spray starch.

The tatted medallion is from a 1948 tatting book, and measures about 2". Tatting with dollar store thread = unfun. It wanted to bunch and frizz. In fact, that is the second medallion, because the first I started knotted weird in a spot and I had to re-do it because I couldn't get the kink out. Then I had to starch the heck out of it because the finished tatting wanted to flop... (If I ever make another like this I will be using actual tatting thread!)

The spider was spray painted so that it was a uniform, shiny black, and sequins glued on. The eyeglass chain was disassembled and put to better use.

Hope you like!

Thank you!

kcli - that's her usual expression! She always looks somewhat devious, and you can't help but wonder what is going on in that head of hers...

It's definitely not a common craft anymore, but I am into obscure forms of needlework. If you do look it up, you should search for someone who calls herself TotusMel. She does some ghoulish work. She tats with a needle though, and I use a shuttle.

I'm not crazy about spiders, either! I really wanted to do something I have never seen done before, though, and my dollar store was limited in options.
