Street Art
«

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but we shall see! I figure in this group of folks some of us must be into and ripe for street art (posters, graf, murals, stencils etc.). What do you all say? I'm just curious if any one else puts stuff up in their lovely town or city? I just find so much of it interesting.

i ... used....to.... a couple years ago.
i drew people on an abandoned house, and wrote pretty words in an alley. i was also asked to decorate an indoor skatepark, so now it has my and friends' names stylized on it, and we don't skate.
ya, i had a paint marker and ran around town with a friend or two every blue moon writing my 'tag' on various places. it got old when
A. I got a good job.
B. my dad recognized my style and was like, uhhhh, i can't believe you did that.
C. my friends who came with me, either drew odd looking tulips or wrote drug- slogans, like, "pot here" on a traffic sign, which I'd already signed.. this is what my dad recognized
i'm sorry i have no pictures, but i didn't want any evidence , haha. like they'd track me down and conffisticate my cameras, woot!

Yes! I love Banksy...his art is awesome - it's intelligent and humorous, and it makes you think. If only I were as brave as him...

mattbot- so do you paint on things or just stick them up when they are done? (seems safer to do the latter)
also, where do you live?

critique is about telling people how they can improve thier work, not just outright saying it stinks.
And trust me, I went to SCAD, so i've seen TONS of bad art. The best way to help is to guide, not insult.
Tho sp1tf1re, i would like to see some of your work.

Ok, the last stencil is by far crazy. I never "vandalize" places, but I did do a rendition of "Starry Night" with sidewalk chalk at the park one day. By the way, Mattbot, are you the one who puts Barney Fife everywhere? I cannot go anywhere without seeing him. But, Barney does make me smile and laugh.

Jeez, ignorance and negativity abounds...I hate it when people try to one-up each other by proclaiming exactly how much they go through. From lost car keys to getting "jumped." Wtf? Can't we all just get along
?
Anyway...Matt - nice work. Is the stencil with the red ink on it yours? Me like-y
. And, since criticism seems to be theme here, I'll say that you're work isn't
too
excellant, but I think it shows style and true potential.
West - that's very neat! Is it purposefully blurry in some areas, or is that a mistake/computer problem? It looks nice, though, and like a lot of work went into it.

once I think of something creative to stencil, I'll go out and try it. I really would like to, but I live in a horrid little town where there's one other cool kid in the entire place. it would be kinda hard to keep your identity secret when it's so small... there' only so much places to do it and you're bound to be seen sooner or later
