what would the two pattern pieces look like before tying them together? i want to make a bikini sort of like these:

That style is called a bandeau top. A well made bandeau top can be strapless, have ordinary over-the-shoulder straps, or halter style straps that fasten on the outside of the cups, or in the center front.

For anyone larger than a b cup, I suggest sewing cups, or even a whole strapless bra, inside a bandeau top.
