Hey there, FBA question:

My measurements are 42" full bust, 36" waist, and 48" hips.  My bra size is 34F, but I wear it on the largest hooks, so more like a 35F.  My measurements basically fit the norms for pattern companies, but I know those are all drafted for B-cups. 

So even though my measurements "fit" am I supposed to be buying by my high-bust measurement and then doing a FBA?  I'm had problems in the past with empire seams not staying under my bust like they're supposed to.  Thanks for any direction/answers.

You need to add extra lenght to the  topfront  and topback  part if you're doing a empire seams style , about 10 cm should  do , dont alter the parts that fit .
I have the same problem  and just  add the 10 cm  without thinking about it .

Regarding the general question : it depends on the pattern really .
I just  make a mock up of the top part and figure out how to take it from there
