Thank you cackle!!!  I really was inspired by the fantastic things I see you, phizzychick, & knickertwist post in the papercrafts board all the time.  Every I see a new project by one of you I gush over it!

This is so neat! I love all the little details, it'd obvious you put a lot of care and thought into this. And such a great subject matter, I am just totally in love with this!

Do you have any tips for making shrines like this? I've tried in the past but they always end up looking, well, a bit sad and silly. Kind of thrown together no matter how much I try to make it look good!

My honest advice is to to stalk the papercrafting boards to see the work of cackle, knickertwist & phizzychick, who make amazing things.  And to look around the web for tutorials by other shrine makers.  Be inspired by (but of course don't copy), the work of other artists, and if you search long enough you'll find one whose aesthetic is in line with what you're trying to go for.  Also, don't settle for the first thing you find to add into the shrine.  Look around the world around you and you'll find things everywhere.  And be passionate and inspired by the subject matter of the shrine you're making.  Both my partner and I love Shakespeare, and I work professionally in theatre, so it was a good fit for both of us, but if I wasn't into it, the shrine wouldn't have come out half so well.
