to me, crafter is all about sharing,...swaps, ideas, and encouragement. i have tried so many new things since finding craftster. i love to draw, and for a recent swap i was trying how to make a sketch into a little bit more. then i found some tutorials on binding your own books. i also picked up a book in the childrens section of our library. for the swap i did a few drawings, on text from a book, and bound them into a new book. i loved how it turned out, so i decided to make a larger one for myself....

it's small, about 4 inches, and 20 pages. i made it from card stock, then layered that with text from a harry potter book, a french dictionary, and a childrens biology book.

the spine is stitched with thin cord in a coptic stitch. the covers are lightweight carboard covered in vinyl wallpaper samples. i'm really looking forward to sketching in this. and i love that this style of spine can close up neatly, lay flat, or opened completly in a star shape.

This is beautiful! I've made quite a few hand bound books, I always have trouble keeping the stitches tight and then my book is loose when I finish. I just recently tried a longstitch book binding technique which I think is a bit easier to keep the stitches tight.

I'm sure you'll enjoy using this for your sketching.
Great that you used the coptic binding so that it would stay flat while you are working in it.
This is going to be a book that you'll treasure for a long time!
