I was in a swap recently and my partner has some great ideas for the type of poppet she wanted. One of her ideas was a mermaid. I've always wanted to make one but was never sure about how to make the tail. I thought I would give it a shot and this is what I came up with.

I just couldn't pass up trying to make a tail with that fabric. It looked like scales to me. And for her hair I found the little bubbles in the party department and thought it looked a bit like the seaweed with the little bulbs on them you find in the ocean. She even had her own offering of a big ol pearl for her new friend.

Wonderful, such a pretty poppet.  I agree the fabric is perfect for the tail.  Love the oyster and pearl too.

You're right. That fabric was perfect for the tail. I love what you did with her hair! When I used to live in FL we would put sea grapes in our hair and pretend to be mermaids while swimming in the ocean. What you found to use is perfect!

I swear that the poppets have evolved to an art form over these last few years...the lastest grouping on Craftster has been just wonderful!

Thanks to all of you for adding your own spin to the poppet...the workmanship and details are just something you should be proud of!

They have, haven't they? I'm amazed at the creativity, workmanship and details as well. It's so fun to see what people come up with. Thank you for the encouragement!!!
