After two years, a baby, a new sewing machine and much blood sweat and tears- I have finally finished my first ever swimsuit.

that looks great, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun to wear in the summer.

so cute! it came out amazing. what pattern did you use? were did you get your swimsuit fabric? how difficult was it working with the fabric? ...... I've been wanting to make one for years now but been too scared.

Thanks. I couldn't find a pattern I liked so I made my own which was pretty tricky. I purchased the fabric at Hancock fabrics a couple years ago, before they decided to be also a craft store and get rid of a lot of their stock. I'm used to working with cottons and non-stretch material so working with a 4 way stretch was pretty daunting for me. But I really had no other option. They don't make swimsuits to fit my chest area and I needed something I'd be comfortable in. I'm putting it down as my most difficult project to date right now.

Love your swimsuit!  I would totally wear that, wish it was from a pattern so I could create it.  I bow down to your pattern making skills.

hmmmmmm not gonna lie, those aren't very encouraging words lol, i think i may be putting off doing a suit for myself for a while again, maybe i'll try getting some prectice in with stretch fabrics first because i dont work with them much either. i really admire your pattern making skills though, its a beautiful design

Thanks. If it helps, I'm probably just more daunted by the task than I'm willing to say. However, looking back at it with a non-daunted mindset, the top is basically a bunch of rectangles. The difficult task was getting the right fit for the top. The bottom was much easier, as I simply cut up a pair of old underwear, traced it and adjusted it to how I wanted.

Hopefully I didn't put you too off making your own. I think if you want a unique suit or if you are like me and can't find a swimsuit that fits you anywhere, this is a good route to go. Just be wary that it's going to take some time and drafting. And it's a good idea to get more material than you think you'll need.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of using the small bit I have left to make a 40s inspired overskirt for my bottoms.
