I've wanted to make this Stark Trek: The Next Generation communicator badge beaded curtain for the past few years.  I finally got the necessary motivation from the Summer Nerd Games.

It is 12,267 pony beads strung on 36" strands of 3mm macrame cord.  Each strand is 141 beads and there are 87 strands.

Here it is hanging...the beads line up better than it looks in the photos!

Here is my pattern in case you want to make your own.  Each row on the chart equals one strand.  Knot the cord at the bottom and start with the first column, moving across the row.

Oh my!! That's so awesome! How long did it take you? Did you have a hard time finding that many beads?

Thanks!  I lost track of time (because I didn't really want to know! Grin ), but I think it was around 25-30 hours of beading, and then about 8 hours of prep work (measuring the beads and doing necessary math, making patterns, pre-cutting lengths of cord, etc.).  I bought the beads in bulk online...super simple!

Seriously awesome job.

Thanks, and thanks for asking!  Wink  I meant to include that info.

The cords are on a 36" dowel (I don't remember the dowel diameter, but it is pretty thick because the curtain is probably around 10lbs).  I made the strands about 6" longer than I needed and then just tied them around the dowel.  I put a little hot glue in the knots to hold them in place and then trimmed the ends.  I painted the dowel so they blend in, but I think I might end up covering it with something in the future.  I'll update it if I do...!

This curtain is totally awesome!!!   Grin My mother in law is a huge Trekkie...I showed this to her and she absolutely loved it. The headaches that came from making this was worth it I'm sure.

This is so amazing!!! I really want to make this for my boyfriend. Where did you order the beads from?

Thanks!  I ordered the beads from Oriental Trading.  They used to sell bulk single color packs of gold and silver, but it looks like they have been discontinued.  They are just 3/8" pony beads, though.  I see a lot on eBay, or just do a quick search and find a site you trust.  Oriental trading still sells the black beads in bulk.

Good luck!  I recommend deep breathing, and a lot of double and triple counting as you string!  Cheesy
