So....in June of last year, I bought myself a cute little scooter as an early birthday present.  I loved this thing, babied it, saved TONS of money on gas, etc.  Well, I was only able to enjoy it for 2 1/2 months, because someone decided that they REALLY wanted it, and stole it Sad  I had given up all hope on getting it back, and started saving up for a new one.  THEN, in February, I received a call from the police department, and they told me they arrested a guy riding it in a blizzard!!!  The officer told me that he wasn't even sure that I would want it, as it was pretty messed up.  That really didn't matter to me...I NEEDED my lil girl back!!!  He wasn't joking...the guy spray-painted it flat black, and it looked like he may have dumped it a couple times.  He also popped out the ignition, but a bicycle brake on it, and removed the mirrors.  The grips and seat were once white, but they ended up brown...stained and NASTY!!!!  It took me almost 2 months to get all the work done, but she is back and better than ever!!!  Now...on to the pics!!!

Here she is before...a cute little pink thang...

Here she is after I picked her up from motorcycle/car jail (impound lot)...doesn't she look SO SAD?!?!

The only way to really cure all that ailed her, I had to take her COMPLETELY apart

Yes...you DID read that right...I glittered my scooter.

And here she is now!!!!  It is really hard to get adequate glitter pics, but you kind of get the idea, right?!?!

Now, for the numbers...

Quote for body work: $600.00                          What I paid for paint supplies: $200.00
New ignition at dealer: $125.00                        What I paid to buy and install one myself: $60.00
New seat: $110.00                                         What it cost for me to make my own: $7.00

There were several other things I had to buy, like...a new cable lock, new helmet, new mirrors, new brake lever, and so on and so on.  BUT, it sure beat the cost of buying a brand new scooter!!!

Thanks for taking a look, and reading this excessively long post Grin

You did such an awesome job AND saved a lot of money!
I am impressed.
And I am happy for you that you got your scooter back, even though it was in a horrible state.
(I love my own little scooter. I've got a bright red Sym Mio.)

Gorgeous restoration on your part!  I love the glitter!  Cheesy

So, is the guy who stole it going to have to pay anything back in reparations?  I mean he screwed it up quite a bit and you went without it for such a long time...  You put a lot of YOUR valuable time into making it look good again too.
I just hate it when people get away with stuff like that.

Wowser! You are a Crafting Queen.
Love the sparkly redo and the story.

I used to drive a Honda scooter - I loved that it cost me only 75-cents to fill up the tank(20 years ago).

Thank you everybodeeee!!!

I recently got some paperwork from the victim's advocate.  The guy is pleading "not guilty", but I really don't think he'll get away with it...the evidence that it was stolen is pretty blatant!!!  Anyway...WHEN he is convicted, he will have to pay restitution Grin  Now I just need to find all of my receipts  Huh

I'm hoping your son gets some of the same luck I did...I know how heartbreaking it is.  If you've seen Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, you will know what I am talking about here.  Every time I saw someone riding something with 2 wheels, not only did it bum me out, but I had some of the music from the movie running through my head.

How frustrating! At least now it's totally customized by you and you have the skill and knowledge to fix more of the little things.

But, seriously, he was driving it IN A BLIZZARD? Obviously an idiot!
