I've always made jewelry for myself, but recently I wanted to make a jewelry collection with some meaning behind it.  Since I live in the woods on a small lake, I tried to draw inspiration from the wilderness around me.  I painted the inspiration for the jewelry on the box.

Canadian Swallowtail Butterfly - Earring/ Necklace

Yellow Perch - Bracelets

Spiderweb/ Dreamcatcher -  Necklace

What do you think?  Some feedback I had about the Perch set was that "Girls don't like fish".  Do you think I'm going to be the only person who likes these? or would people like these as gifts?

Pfffffffffffffffft on them - I like the perch the most.  For that matter - aren't you a girl?  Thus negating the other person's statement of "fact"?

Holy crap!  My very first thought as I saw everything was, "ZOMG!  I LOVE FISH!!!  What a cool bracelet set!"

Whoever told you girls don't like fish probably assumes all girls only like purple and pink, wear dresses, want to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, and would only ever shoot revolvers.   Roll Eyes

Really, I know a lot of women who are really into fish and fishing.  Granted, we are the outdoorsie type, but still.  Not even all of us are Alaskan!!!
For that matter, show it to a woman who is interested in Marine Biology or is in the school of fisheries!  I am sure they would adore it too.
Furthermore, I have seen earrings and necklaces made in the style of fishing flies with the hooks crimped and capped off.  They are really fantastic and look great on.  People seem to be crazy about them!

Or just someone who likes fish and thinks the colors are lovely.  Your collection brings to mind the Victorian era, when people would go off to the lake for their summers and Naturalists were beginning to share their sketches with everyone.  Gorgeous stuff!

I believe you have a much more broad range of interest than your original feedback source knew of.

Your colors are perfect too, you chose just the right shades to go with the pictured creatures on the boxes.  The boxes on their own are gorgeous too!  Everything is so nicely done!

These are so pretty and the item you put on each is well suited to the shape of the box. Smiley

You're welcome!

I kind of went off on a  tangent, but it's SO frustrating when someone says, "Girls won't like that."  or "Girls don't DO that."  Or "All women like XYZ."  Particularly when it's something involving the beauty of nature.

I hope you get a chance to create more boxes and jewelry inspired by the lake and surrounding wilderness this summer too!  I'd love to see more.

I love all of these, and I especially like the fish myself.
