I'm currently in the Shrine Swap being run by the lovely lindyv321.  Since I've never made a shrine before, I decided to do a practice one before diving into the real thing.  This is my Gryffindor Shrine.  It was made from the lid of an old candy tin.  I mod podged scrapbooking paper onto the back and inside, then covered the inside rim with vintage velvet ribbon that wraps to the outside edge.  The lion head was originally silver, but I covered it in antique gold rub & buff, and then antiqued it with a bit of black craft paint.  Highlights were added to the mane and eyes with some bright gold Smooch.  The wand and Sword of Gryffindor are both pewter charms that had broken loops, so I covered them with jewels.  The token hanging from the bottom says "Courageous" and is from Tim Holtz.  Some red glass heart beads and fun fur complete my little shrine.  Now to dive into the "real" one!

EDIT:  I have been searching for the tutorial I referenced when putting this together.  The lovely rackycoo put together an EXCELLENT tutorial on making Altered Altoids Tins.  Be sure to check it out!

Thanks lindy!  I'm finally starting to feel better about my "main event" shrine.  It's taking so many coats of paint & stamping though!!!

Thanks KK!

Aren't shrines fun to make? Your Gryffindor shrine is awesome! I love that you made it from a tin lid.

Thanks racky!  That means so much coming from you.  I referenced your awesome Altered Altoids Tin tutorial a LOT when starting out.  I've gone back and added a link to it in my post so that others can find their way to it too.  Thank you for being such a wonderful Mod & caring Craftster!

It was always meant to be with you darling.  But I couldn't resist posting it earlier to get some feedback on shrine making!
