Male house Sparrow bauble
using polymer clay as Scratchboard...finally got down an idea thats been sitting on the shelf in my head for far too long. just about any item you can cover with polymer clay could be fair game for this tecnique and you could easily use a differant colour marker or clay Smiley

i covered a plain glass bauble in white polymer clay then baked and sanded. since i didnt need a buffed surface i used 400 grit followed by 600 grit sandpaper just to get the bumps out, then i covered it with permenant marker (buff and rub with your fingers (or a rough cloth if you are leaving the house the same day as this will stain your fingers a rather fetching black/blue colour) to remove 'scribble' marks.
depending on the brand of marker you may need two coats. i used a CD marker
i then scrapped the design using a craft knife and a thick needle. you can trace the design onto the bauble or draw it first with a pencil first.
finish with a coat of varnish.
im quite pleased with how this turned out especially since ive never tried scratchboard before Smiley

What a beautiful drawing!  This is an interesting technique, I've never heard of it, but the results are stunning.  It would make a stunning ornament for a Christmas tree.

Thanks for the details on your technique.  The finished item is beautiful, and elegant.  Your drawing skills plus the black and white worked really well.

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. . . . I would rather have cheese.

Your sparrow is so pretty, you did an awesome job. Thank you for sharing your technique. Scratch boards were one of my favorite things during art class in school, it was such a challenge to do the opposite we want to do when drawing (take away to reveal the picture vs add to make the picture). Thanks again.
