I recently completed this altered journal/spell book for the lovely teag, as an Angel package for the One Awesome Harry Potter Thing Swap.  Teag had several altered books & art journal links on her Pinterest, so I decided to go WAY outside my comfort zone, and create a magical notebook for her.

I started with a ready-made journal, which in hindsight may not have been the best idea.  As I added more into the journal, it grew so much thicker, that I had to remove over 30 sheets of paper by the time I was done!  If I were to do this again, I think I might lay out each page first, then stitch them into segments, and then stitch them into a cover.  The outside of the journal was distressed with Tim Holtz distressing ink pads, and a gold ink pad.  The original fold-around cover was cut, and reglued, so that it would always be open at the end, instead of covered by the original fold around cover.  The pages were distressed with ink, water, and tea.  Each page was created as a sort of collage, with bits of die cuts, tape, stickers, sketches, watercolor paints, and anything else I found around my house & the clearance section at the local craft stores.

The project was great fun, but took much more time than I had initially anticipated.  (My hats off to you paper crafters!)  It was about 3 weeks of work, in between other projects, and made quite a mess of my normally neat craft table.

The cover, which is embellished with metal buttons, a Tim Holtz Ornate Plate and braided trim:

Detail of the bookmark charms, a Vintaj key & Tim Holtz Inspiration charm:

Cover Page, with a Railway receipt from the Hogwarts Express & luggage tag from the Leaky Cauldron:

Title Page for Spells section. The real vintage photo was found in a junk shop near my house.

Alohamora & Open Your Heart pages, decorated with chipboard letters, random ephemera and a painting:

Confundo, Diffindo, Engorgio & Expecto Patronum Spells with bits from 7 Gypsies:

Expelliarmus, Immobilus & Lumos:

Obliviate, Protego & Reparo.  The little portrait is saying "A spell in time, saves nine!"

Scourgify, Tergeo & Wingardium Leviosa, with more die cuts and random ephemera:

Magical Creatures Title Page, with a map of confirmed Nogtail sightings.  The fish is thinking "It does not due to dwell on dreams and forget to live".

Basilisk, with a sketch, green jewels, and a Slytherin banner:

Cornish Pixie:

Dragon & Dragon Ladie's All-Witch Quidditch Team Pages:

Phoenix, with a bit of a page from an old calendar and some burgundy & gold jewels:

Sphinx & riddles page:

Unicorn & Imagination page:

Divination Title Page:

Tassomancy Symbols, page 1:

Tassomancy Symbols, page 2:

Tarot Card Reading as Homework (for Padma Patil):

Palmistry Homework (reading for Luna Lovegood):

Love Potion #9 & Daydreaming Pages:

Ravenclaw Pride pages:

Portions & Poisons End Pages:

That's all the pages!  If you've waded through them all, thank you!  While there were some very trying moments while crafting, I very pleased with how it came out overall, and I hope it has found a lovely new home with teag.
