class-arithimancy
house-gryffendor
project- layered necklace

i wanted a bold silver and black necklace to go with a new dress. i found the black wire wrapped beads, but they didn't stand out so i started playing around additional beads threaded onto wire, some chain, and some silver bangles that i had. i haven't done a lot with wire. i liked how it turned out, but keeping everything untangled, and all those jump rings tight turned out to be much more complicated than i expected.

whew! I've been working on Fall finishing touches all day!  I was going to do an update and post my last few projects, but I think I'm going to spend some time with my hubby before the craziness starts tomorrow.

Thanks to the peeps who have PMed me about interest in HPC Staff positions.  I now have a better idea of HPC Staff positions still open.  They are:

Gryffindor Head of House, Hufflepuff Head of House, and Slytherin Head of House

--Heads of House aka HoHs are house cheerleaders (which could be cheering their housemate projects, inspiring ideas to gain house points, run house challenges, etc.), help field questions from their house (of course I'll help, but I already am getting tons of PMs so helping hands would be great!), and can reserve themselves a spot for House news and happenings (this spot will be given a portkey in first post for ease of finding for students)  HoHs can recruit a Prefect to lend them a helping hand.

--SPEW President: Helps encourage SPEW works and helps cheer on those who perform SPEW crafty magic

--And open to other positions such as Class Professors (help Headmistress in creation of assignments, be active and be able to answer questions about classes), Kitchen Elf (review and post magical recipes), or pitch me an idea of what you are passionate or think would be fun.

PM me anytime during semester if interested!  Grin

I have a whole bunch of last minute assignments to get in under the wire!

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Bean-Honey+ SPEW
House:Slytherin
Project Name: Flowery office pass

This Office pass is for my mother's classroom who teaches 4th grade at a public school. Since it is a donated item to a public school it qualifies for SPEW and since it has flowers on it it qualifies for this bean!

Class/Challenge/House Pride:August Detention
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Ocean Life Abstract Art Greeting Cards

I love trying new artistic styles and techniques so with these I played a little with color and pattern, I am really proud of how they turned out Smiley

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Astronomy
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Snake zen drawing

This drawing fits this class because it is inspired by the contellation Ophiuchus or The Snake Bearer he is a relatively rare constellation that can only be seen some summers. The snake is a symbol of Asclepius who is considered the father of medicine. I thought this constellation was perfect for me this summer considering that it represents powerful healing which is something my family really needs right now.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: D.A.D.A.
House:Slytherin
Project Name: Baby Ghost Halloween Ornament

Hinkypunks or will-o-the-wisps are fabled to be the ghosts of children who had died and not properly laid to rest or still born babies. So I made a little baby ghost ornament.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
House:  Slytherin
Project Name: Narwhal of the North Greeting Card

One of the options for flying was something that has to do with the North and my favorite northern animal is the narwhal so I made an abstract drawing greeting card honoring it.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: History of Magic
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Bright and Summery Herb Gathering Pouch

I had some of this amazing summery yarn left so I made a pouch for gathering summery things whether it be the herbs of mid summer or the sunscreen and chapstick of the summer beach Smiley

And finally: BINGO, BINGO, BINGO, BINGO, BINGO, BINGO!!!

That's right! I have six Bingo's to declare:

* this is assuming that pinkleo accepted my prize donation that I made yesterday. *

I down
N down
G down
Diagonal from Detention to Quidditch
Charms Across
Arithmancy Across

Well, that's my end of the semester post! I can't wait for the Fall term to begin!

Dragonchilde: how did you make that st john's-oil? I am using only part of my st john's for textile colouring, and am curious as to if i can use the rest of it somehow!

The method I used to make my St. John's Wort infused oil is fairly simple. I took some St. John's Wort flowers/flower buds (fresh work better than dried) and placed them in a jar which I then filled with an oil (I used sweet almond oil but you could use whatever you have on hand) until the oil was at least an inch over the flowers. I then put a lid on the mixture and let it sit in the kitchen (someplace warm and with limited direct sunlight). I let the oil infuse for about two weeks (pretty much until the oil turns a bright red-orange) at which point I strained the flowers. To prevent the oil from spoiling I let the jar sit undisturbed covered with cheesecloth to allow the oil and water components to separate. Once they have separated I poured off and saved the oil. *Note: if you use dried St. John's Wort expect a very subtle color change.

The oil will have a generally calming effect though it can sometimes agitate individuals. If taken internally the oil will photosensitize a person, making it important to avoid sunlight. If applied externally (as a liquid oil or a lotion or salve) it will act as a mild sunblock due to the red pigments extracted. Good luck with your St. John's Wort! Smiley Feel free to PM me with questions.
