Harry Potter Craftalong ~Summer Semester 2013~

~*Began June 1, 2013*~
~*Ended August 31, 2013*~

Summer Semester lasted 92 days
38 Students were enrolled at Hogwarts
775 Projects were Posted!!

That is an amazing average of around
8 projects a day and 20 projects per student!

Welcome to Hogwarts!
The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is not your typical craftalong; we are gathered here to celebrate our love of crafting and the Wonderful World of Harry Potter.  In the HPC you will be completing classes and challenges with your skills in crafty magic.  These classes and challenges all have HP centered themes, but your crafts do not have to be “Harry Potter."  Your mission, as a student at Hogwarts, is to complete at least one class or challenge during this semester.  You may join any time during the semester.  I hope you join us; the HPC is a great way to stretch your crafty muscles, meet HP crafters, and have fun!

~*HPC PROJECTS*~
---The HPC is here to help us each finish projects and to explore new challenges as we better our crafting skills.  Prompts and guidelines are there to help stimulate creativity and growth; the size and complexity of the project submitted should reflect a level of personal growth and challenge over the time you spend in the HPC.
---Projects for the HPC should represent your best crafty skills.  Take pride in your work.  Classes and challenges should take a minimum of 30 minutes to make.
---A project can only be submitted for one class/challenge (the same project cannot be entered in multiple categories) unless noted in prompt (it will be CLEARLY noted if allowed).
---Projects must be turned in within the timeframe designated by the type of assignment or challenge.
---For a project to be counted, it must have a picture or picture link included.  If your item is a private piece, you may submit a picture link to one of the headmistresses.
---There is SO MUCH to do in the HPC.  Do not feel like you have to craft everything.  Think of the HPC as a "Choose Your Own Adventure".  Craft what inspires you, but don't try to do everything and get burned out.  Keep in mind the wise words of Deputy Headmistress jennieingram, "It does not do to dwell on lists and forget to craft."

~*HOW TO TURN IN A PROJECT*~
For each assignment/challenge, use this header:
Class/Challenge/House Pride:
House:
Project Name:
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)
Project Picture:
Feel free to also include your house and any storycrafting you've created for your project.
---You can add more than one project to your post, but a header must be used for each project.

~*HPC FAQs*~
---How long is a semester?  Semesters are as follows: FALL-September, October, November; WINTER- December, January, February; SPRING-March, April, May; SUMMER-June, July, August
---When can I join?  You can join anytime in the semester.
---Do I have to sign-up to join this craftalong? No, all you have to do is post in the thread a hi or completed project post.
---How do I complete a semester/earn my year? To complete a semester/year, you only have to complete one class or challenge during the semester.
---What timezone do we use?  We use Headmistress pinkleo's Central Timezone (Texas time).
---Do you sort me?  NO, you will decide which house you belong to, but you can only choose one.
---I have a problem or question; who can I ask?  You can send a Personal Message (PM) to Headmistress pinkleo.  You can also ask specific questions to HPC staff.  And you can post your question in the thread; our students are very helpful!
---Can I turn in something I did earlier? With a very few exceptions the answer is NO!  You must complete your project during the current semester. Exceptions are Detention and OWLs; look for details about these projects in their information posts.
---Are we swapping? No, this is not an organized swap.  We are just encouraging crafting with a HP twist.  But if you enjoy swapping, keep an eye out for HP themed swap info in our thread.
---Do I have to craft all the classes and challenges? NO, you pick what you inspires you.  There is tons to choose from so choose your own HP Craft Adventure through the castle.
---What kind of projects are allowed for classes/challenges? If Craftster has a category for it, then it is a viable HPC project.  And since Craftster has a board for almost everything, your choices are vast.
---Does my craft project have to be Harry Potter themed? NO, if your item fulfills the class/challenge prompt, then it can be posted in the HPC.  Above all, we are here to encourage crafting.
---What is the Magic Quill?  Ah, you must have heard about that from your headmistress.  She is referring to updating the completed project list by using the tinyurl website.

~*House Points*~
~*Your triumphs will earn you points*~
Points System
15 points for a Class Assignment & Challenge*
100 points for OWLs
150 points for NEWTs
10 points extra for SPEW aka Charity Items

House Points Guidelines
--- *You cannot double dip for Class & Challenge points.  For example, if you turn-in a project for Herbology & Geminio, then you would get 2 badges but only 15 points for the project.
---You cannot get credit for a class or challenge twice.  For example, if you turn in 2 Alchemy projects, then you will only get points for the first one.
--- SPEW points are extra credit.  You can earn SPEW points for each project you turn in if it goes to charity.  You do not have to give the charity's name, just that you are donating to a certain cause.  (I happen to know that some Battered Women's Shelters don't like their names/locations posted.) SPEW projects must be clearly marked with SPEW to earn extra points.  I suggest adding it to your header.  Also, SPEW project can be turned in as stand-alone projects; they will earn 10 points.  Unlike most projects, you can turn in more than one SPEW project for points.
---HPC Challenge Points do not include House Challenges.  For Example, a Gryffindor Lion-along project would not count for points unless it also fulfills a HPC Class or HPC Challenge.
--- To determine House Cup Winner, an average from the points accumulated per house and the number of members per house.  If there is a tie, then more than one house will win the cup.  Note, a House Member is someone who has turned in at least 1 project.
--- Don't stress over House Points, but do craft your personal best. (This varies from person to person.  And I'm not really worried about "crafting your best" bit because HPCers are amazing crafters!)

~*House Pride & House Unity*~
You can turn in as many House Pride or House Unity projects as you wish.  These are projects inspired by one of the Hogwarts Houses.  House Pride would be projects representing your house, and House Unity would be projects representing the other houses or a combination of houses.  They can be inspired by house colors, mascots, founders, heads, past members, house ghosts, etc.  Note you will get House Points on only 1 House Pride and 1 House Unity project per semester.

~*Summer Classes*~
---Alchemy: Alchemy texts and imagery is full of symbolism.  This semester we will research the symbol of the peacock.  As a winged bird, the peacock represents the smooth transition of an alchemical operation, where the volatile parts of the residue are transcended.  Further, the multicolored tail or feather of a peacock is used to represent molten metals and herald the final stage of transformation.  Continue your research the symbolism of the peacock, and create a project inspired by this magnificent bird.

---Apparition: Apparition is called Disapparition from the point of view of someone at the place being left, and Apparition from the point of view of someone at the destination, much like the words "disappear" and "appear".  Your goal this term is to find something in your trunk, potions cabinet, bookshelf, vault, or stash, and make it disappear.  In its place, you should have something appear.

---Arithmancy: For Summer, we are going to explore some practical applications of Arithmancy and observe Curse Breakers.  As you know, Arithmancy is a required subject for those interested in this career.  A Curse-Breaker is a profession in which a wizard or witch disables or counters curses in ancient tombs or other historical sites.  It is a very dangerous and serious profession, in which a wizard or witch could be killed as a result of an old curse, jinx, or hex.  Curse Breakers work at many areas of ancient magical importance like the Egyptian pyramids and at locations throughout the modern wizarding world such as Gringotts.  To show that you have paid attention during your observations, you are to produce a project that is either dangerously complicated or represent a place where a Curse Breaker would work.

---Astronomy: This term we will be studying the summer night skies.  The Northern Hemisphere skies play host to some real treasures for anyone willing to hunt them down.   The first object in my top five sights is only a visitor to the summer sky, the beautiful and enigmatic planet Saturn.  It is easy to spot to the south east of the bright star Spica in Virgo.  My second summer sight to see is the Milky Way.  Depending on the date and time you are observing the orientation of the band of light coming from our galaxy, the Milky Way, can appear very different.   It is really prominent in the direction of the small constellation Scutum.  Third sight is one of the finest globular cluster in the northern hemisphere of the sky, M13.  It can be found on the western side of the constellation Hercules between Eta and Zeta Herculis.  To the naked eye M13 can be just detected as a fuzzy star, but telescopes reveal a glittering swarm of a million stars.  Fourth summer sight is the beautiful binary system Albireo that marks the head or, more specifically, the beak of Cygnus the swan.  The star can be seen with the naked eye almost bang in the center of the 'Summer Triangle (Albireo, Deneb and Altair), but even a modest telescope will reveal that the two component stars are yellow and blue.  My last summer sight is the Coathanger Cluster.  Almost halfway between Vega in Lyra and Altair in Aquila you will find this great binocular object.  Binoculars easily pick up 10 of the 30 or so stars in this cluster that is spread over an area of sky about twice the size of the full moon. As its name suggests, the appearance of the cluster bares striking resemblance to a coat-hanger. Most of the stars in the cluster are white or blue in color, but one of the stars stands out nicely as a cooler orange star.  There are far more wonders in the summer skies so grab your telescopes and binoculars and observe them.  Come back with your new knowledge, and create something that honors anything within the summer night skies.

---Care of Magical Creatures (CoMC): The Jobberknoll is a small, blue speckled bird that never makes any noise until the moment before it dies. It then lets out a long scream, which consists of every sound it ever heard backwards. Jobberknoll feathers are used in Truth Serums and Memory Potions.  Demonstrate your knowledge of the Jobberknoll by creating something blue or with feathers.

---Charms: The Gouging Spell, Defodio, is a charm used to gouge out portions of earth or stone.  It can be used to dig through or hollow out.  Defodio has practical applications, both in digging and in making passageways through solid rock. Careful use of this spell can dig out the required object and leave the environment relatively untouched.  From budding Herbologists digging for Snargaluff seedlings to treasure-hunting curse breakers uncovering ancient wizard tombs, the Gouging Spell makes all manner of heavy labor a matter of pointing a wand.  Show your mastery of this charm in a project of your choosing.  (Your carving gouging is not limited to earth or stone.)

---Defence Against the Dark Arts (DADA) A Hinkypunk (aka will-o'-the-wisp or ignis fatuus) is a diminutive, one-legged creature with the appearance of wispy blue, grey or white smoke.  It has a proclivity for luring travelers off of their paths at night, into treacherous bogs or wetlands under the guise of a helpful, lamp-bearing being. They are impish varmints who revel in inconveniencing magical folk and non-magical folk alike. They can propel fireballs far from their lamps, causing serious damage. They also sporadically emit hollering and grunting noises.  One can avoid confrontation with the Hinkypunk by simply moving out of their throwing range. However, if one is close enough to a Hinkypunk, the creature will throw flame from its lantern, and therefore destruction is advised. The following method is recommended:  Trap the Hinkypunk in a corner or approach it in a tight space.  Perform the Lumos Duo Charm onto the Hinkypunk in question until it solidifies.   While the Hinkypunk is still solid and dazed, blinded by the wandlight, attack it with the Knockback Jinx three to five times, thereby causing it to disappear in a puff of white smoke.  Prove that you can defend yourself against a Hinkypunk by creating something inspired by it.

---Divination: Pyromancy is the art of divination by means of fire.  The most basic form of pyromancy is that in which the diviner observes flames to predict the future or see back into past events for revelations.  It is up to the diviner’s discretion as to what the signs tell them.  There are several divination methods which fall under pyromancy, and all use fire in some way.  Some may involve burning a specific substance, and some may just need smoke.  Examples include capnomancy (divination by smoke), alomancy (divination in which salt is thrown into fire), daphnomancy (divination by burning laurel leaves), botanomancy (burning of various leaves) and sideromancy (burning straws).  For your divination homework, you are to either create something using fire (i.e. pyrography) or represent fire in your craft.

---Flying: Broomsticks or Brooms are one of the means employed by wizards and witches to transport themselves.  In fact, nearly every wizarding household owns at least one broomstick. Dedicated riders keep their brooms in top condition with a Broomstick Servicing Kit.  The Broomstick Servicing Kit contains a large jar of Fleetwood's High-Finish Handle Polish, a pair of silver Tail-Twig Clippers, a brass clip-on compass, and a Handbook of Do-It-Yourself Broomcare.  For your flying assignment, you must demonstrate your knowledge of good broomcare.  Produce an item that is SHINY for polish, has neat FRINGE for clippers, represent NORTH for compass, OR create& share a TUTORIAL/PATTERN for handbook.

---Herbology: Cherries are known by muggle and magical alike.  The cherry is one of the world's oldest cultivated fruits. Cultivation dates back to 300 B.C. and its lineage dates back even farther.  Its name in Latin means of or for the birds, due to the birds' obvious love of the fruit. The tree was beloved by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans both for its beautiful flowers and its versatile fruit.  Not only are they a delightful treat, cherries are one of the essential ingredients for potions and brews.  For example, they are an essential ingredient of the Invisibility Potion.  But the name “cherry” also refers to the cherry tree.  Its bark, leaves, fruit all have their own benefits, from pain relief to soothing tummy aches to sore throats to sleep aid.  And cherry is a very rare wand wood that should be teamed with a wizard with exceptional self-control and strength of mind.  One notable wizard with a cherry wood wand is Neville Longbottom.  For your Herbology homework, you are to represent cherries or one of their many aspects in a project.

---History of Magic (HoM): We are studying the customs of Midsummer.  Midsummer has long been a time when myth and reality converge, when deities dance in woodlands and fiery festivities mark the advent of Midsummer’s Day.  Around the world it is known by many names: St. Jon’s Eve, Bonfire Night, and Litha.  Midsummer's Day is, among other things, a celebration of the summer solstice--the longest day in the calendar year.  It is also a time of green trees, lush meadows, verdant fields and love.  From ancient times there is the custom of lighting fires in a space where many could assemble.  These communal fires were a place for merriment following prayers.  Music, dancing, jumping over or passing through the fire all contributed to the noise and gaiety of the evening.  After the fires had burned down, households would carry quantities of the ashes to sprinkle on fields or in each of the four corners for blessings on the crops, an ember or two to lay on the hearth.  The ashes were considered lucky; they might ensure a peaceful death to old people, and they were thought to have curative powers when taken internally. This is also the time of year for the gathering of St. John's Wort and Calendula.  People believed that these golden-flowered mid-summer plants had miraculous healing powers, and they therefore picked them on this night.   Create something that is inspired by Midsummer customs.  You may find inspiration within this prompt or through your own research.

---Muggle Studies (MS): Field Trip!  We are going camping “muggle-style.”  We will learn to set up muggle tents, start a fire using matches, roast marshmallows, go fishing with poles, and tell muggle ghost stories.  So grab your pack and gather your wits, it’s time to Muggle Camp.  Oh, so that you are fully prepared, craft the item that you will be bringing along on our camping trip.

---Potions: The Draught of Living Death is an extremely powerful sleeping potion, sending the drinker into a death-like slumber, similar to suspended animation.  Craft something that related to the use of The Draught of Living Death: something that could help you get to or stay asleep, something related to sleep in muggle fairy tales (i.e. - Sleeping Beauty or Rip vanWinkle), or you could go in a different route and create something based on the legends of the living dead.

---Study of Ancient Runes (SoAR): ᚷ, gebō or Gyfu, meaning is gift or generosity.  For your project, you must create either a gift or show a generous spirit.

---Transfiguration: Draconifors is a spell used to transform something into a dragon.  Okay, focus.  Concentrate on which dragon you would like to conjure up.   Have it in your mind?  Okay now pick your target.  With a slash wand at the target, cast the Draconifors Spell.  To prove your focus and mastery of this spell, you must create an item inspired by a particular dragon.  From a Chinese Fireball to a Ukrainian Ironbelly, it is your choice, but you must identify your dragon when turning in.

~Everything O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s~
---Ordinary Wizarding Levels, OWLs, and Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests, NEWTs, are advanced crafting projects.  OWLs and NEWTs are supposed to be more complex and challenging projects.
---OWLs and NEWTs are more time-consuming than HPC classes and challenges.  There is no hard and fast rule on how many hours a project should take, because speed and difficulty levels are too subjective.  What we are really looking for is a project that will be a personal challenge to you.
---OWLs should take 3-4 weeks to complete.
---NEWTs should take more than a month to complete.
---Projects that do not take the allotted time of crafting will not be counted as complete; keep that in mind when you post your completed OWLs and NEWTs.  If you finish your OWL or NEWT earlier than expected, then craft an additional item(s) that correspond with your subject.  Add notes on how you finished earlier than expected and details about your additional crafting in your Completed Project post.
---You must propose your OWL or NEWT before starting so that we may be your cheerleaders and help encourage you during this more challenging craft adventure.
---You may only do 1 OWL & 1 NEWT at one time.  (Dont want you to be stuck with a ton of OWL & NEWT WIPs!)
---You may propose an OWL or NEWT any time during the semester.
---OWLs and NEWTs can carry over to the next semester.
---If you decide to abandon an OWL or NEWT project, notify your OWL Examiners, and they will erase that log from their records.  Once you have submitted to have an OWL or NEWT erased, you can propose a new one.

~*HOW TO COMPLETE AN OWL*~
1. Select which OWL you would like to complete.  You may only do one OWL at a time so select carefully.
2. Propose what you plan on doing for your OWL project.  You may do this by PM to your OWL Examiners or by posting in the HPC thread.  When making an OWL Proposal, please use the header below, and make sure you give details such as methods using, materials using, plan of action, timeline.  These details will help us cheer you on and inspire future OWLs.
3. Begin work on your OWL project.  Feel free to add progress pics in the HPC thread.
4. Once your project is complete, post a picture of your project in the HPC; make sure to use the OWL Header provided below.  Once you post a completed OWL, your OWL Examiner will notify the Headmistress, and you will earn your OWL Badge for that subject.
GOOD LUCK!!

~*OWL EXAMS*~
--Alchemy:  Option 1-Alchemists have, through their mystical quests, made significant contributions to our world.  These include metalworking, production of inks, dyes and cosmetics, ceramics and glass manufacture, preparation of extracts and liqueurs and the invention of gunpowder.  Honor the work of these alchemists by creating something from one or more of these contributions.  Option 2-The Four Elements of alchemy are Fire, Earth, Air and Water.  Craft a project that represents all four of these elements.
--Arithmancy: Bridget Wenlock was a famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer, and the first to establish the magical properties of the number seven.  Your OWL quest is to turn in something that involves the number seven.
--Astronomy: Option 1-Craft a star chart.  Option 2-Interpret the solar system into a craft.  Option 3-It is believed that we can only see 5% of the universe, the rest is made up of Dark Matter and Dark Energy which is invisible to us. Create something where at first glance you can only see a small portion, but when you look closer you can find the rest of the details.
--Care of Magical Creatures:  Option 1-Even in the muggle world, we are surrounded by fascinating and breathtaking creatures.  Craft something inspired by an everyday animal you find magical.  Option 2-Dragons are terrifying yet awe-inspiring; craft something inspired by these magical creatures.
--Charms: Research the different charms and show your mastery of a particular charm by crafting something inspired by it.  For example, Alohomora is an opening charm; craft something that open or has an opening.  Another example, Confundus is a confusion charm; craft something you find a bit confusing.
--Defence Against the Dark Arts: Option 1-The patronus is an effective charm against dementors and to call for help when in need, though difficult to master. Craft something using your patronus animal.  Option 2-Craft something inspired by one of the DADA professors.
--Divination: Option 1-Create at least 4 items you need for a successful reading.  Option 2-Create a dream item.  Option 3-Create something inspired by the zodiac.
--Herbology:  Research magical and mundane plants, and show your knowledge by creating something inspired by one or more plants that could be found in a wizards or witches garden.
--History of Magic: Option 1-Create 4 different items, one item for each house, these items should reflect your interpretation of the characteristics of each house.  Option 2-Craft 3 items which represent 3 characters with Harry Potter.   Option 3-Craft something using a vintage pattern, material, or technique.
--Muggle Studies: We all know the Tales of Beetle Bard, but did you know that muggles have a vast array of fantastical stories?  The most fascinating are known to muggles as fairy tales.  Study these tales and craft something inspired by them.
--Potions: Option 1- Show off your ability to work with many ingredients by showcasing at least 3 different colors/pattern/textures.  Colors can be monochromatic.  A variegated yarn or one fabric swatch with various colors within it count as one color.  Option 2-Research different potions and show your mastery by crafting something inspired by it.
--Study of Ancient Runes: Option 1-Use an intricate charted design; you may create your own design for this project.  Option 2-Create something that contains 7 or more letters/symbols.  Option 3-Create a set of runes; these can be presented in one or more pieces.
--Transfiguration: Option 1-Practice your vanishing and conjuring spells by taking a large amount of supply and crafting one piece.  Option 2-Craft something with a dual purpose.  Option 3-Craft your Animagus.

~*HOW TO COMPLETE A NEWT*~
IMPORTANT: To be eligible to take your NEWT, you must have completed one OWL.  If you have not completed an OWL, you cannot propose a NEWT.
1. Select which subject you would like to complete for your NEWT.  You may only do one NEWT at a time so select carefully.
2. Propose what you plan on doing for your NEWT project.  You may do this by PM to your NEWT Examiners or by posting in the HPC thread.  When making an NEWT Proposal, please use the header below, and make sure you give details such as methods using, materials using, plan of action, timeline.  These details will help us cheer you on and inspire future NEWTs.
3. Begin work on your NEWT project.  Feel free to add progress pics in the HPC thread.
4. Once your project is complete, post a picture of your project in the HPC; make sure to use the NEWT Header provided below.  Once you post a completed NEWT, your NEWT Examiner will notify the Headmistress, and you will earn your NEWT Badge for that subject.
GOOD LUCK!!

~*NEWT EXAMS*~
So, whats a NEWT?! A NEWT is impressive! A NEWT is just enough crazy that youre not totally sure you can make it to end, but not so crazy that youll land in the padded wagon on your way to the finish line.  A NEWT is much like a thesis.  You are to choose the course of study you wish to take in a particular subject.  Research your desired subject, find a facet of that subject that you wish focus your advanced studies.  Form a plan of action, and make your proposal.  Remember your NEWT should be detailed and should be a craft endeavor that take you 1 month or more to finish.  This is Advanced Studies so make sure to stretch yourself and your crafty magic.  You may take NEWTs in the following subjects:
--Alchemy: Students are expected to show extensive knowledge of basic elements, as well as the transmutation of substances.
--Arithmancy: Students display their mastery of all things magical and mathematical.

--Muggle Studies: Students should demonstrate their knowledge of all things muggle and have the ability to blend into muggle society with ease
--Potions: Students should exhibit full knowledge of all potions and a mastery at mixing complex potions.

~Headmistress' Tower~
:::password: Pepper Imps:::

Welcome new and old students!  As we settle into the Summer semester, I wanted to say a few words.  First, you will see me and Deputy Headmistress jennieingram mention many times about how you do not have to craft ALL the classes and challenges.  This is because we don't want anyone to feel overwhelmed and not craft along.  I can tell you now that I, Headmistress pinkleo, will not be crafting everything in the Summer HPC; what I will be crafting is those classes and challenges that inspire me.  Furthermore, all that is needed to complete the semester and a HPC year is to post one project during the semester.  I sincerely hope you find this a comforting reminder and enjoy your crafting.  Second, we are playing Summer BINGO; grab your card for a chance to win fab prizes.  Third, Summer Semester means it is time for the competition of the HPC Quidditch Cup!  Let's see if Gryffindor can retain this title; I know it will be a great match!  Look for details in July about the HPC Quidditch Cup.  Further, please note that we participate in the Hogwarts tradition of House Points; House Points are explained in the first post of the HPC.  I hope you have fun this semester.  Take your time exploring the castle and all that's within; for your convenience, portkeys to various rooms have been added to the first post of this thread.  And if you ever have a question or problem, do not hesitate in sending an owl (aka PM) to me or jennieingram.  I would like to leave you with some final words, and here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you and blessed be.

FAQs
Q. Is everyone's card the same?
YES!

Q. I completed classes/challenges/etc. during the summer but before the card was released.  Can I mark them off on my card?
YES!  As long as it was completed during the Summer 2013 semester.

Q. How do I donate a prize?
PM your Headmistresses jenniengram and pinkleo.  Make sure to add what you would like to donate, a picture of donation, shipping preference, and etsy shop (if you have one).  We would like prizes to be either crafty or Harry Potter related.

Q. How do I craft for S.P.E.W.?
To craft for S.P.E.W. means to craft a charity item.  Your SPEW work can be turned in as a class/challenge or stand alone.

Q. Do BINGOs earn House Points?
No.  But BINGO will motivate you to complete classes and challenges which will in turn earn your House more points.

~Quidditch Cup~
*July 27, 2013-August 17, 2013*

*NOTICES*
--Keep in mind that the Quidditch Cup Deadlines will be strictly enforced.  All enchantments and protections spells will end precisely on August 17, 2013 at 11:59pm CT.

--All HPC rules apply for Quidditch events!  Please refresh yourself of these guidelines; they are located first page, first post.

--Remember projects for the HPC should represent your best crafty skills.  Take pride in your work.

--Submissions should take a minimum of 30 minutes to make.

--Incomplete or partial projects will not be accepted.

--No WIPs are allowed for the Quidditch Cup.  (unless denoted in prompt)

--All submissions need to be created during the game, from July 27 to August 17. (unless denoted in prompt)

*SCORING*
--Events & Penalty Shots=20 points
--SPEW Bonus=10 points

*EVENTS*
Let's have a fair and fun game!  Once you have complete EVERY event, you may go back and do them one more time. Grin

--Seeker: Snitches are made of pure gold.  Craft something golden.  This could be literal, as in the color, or it could be more abstract, like an item that conforms to the "golden ratio", or the "golden rule" (Ie., mathmatical proportions, or "do unto others")

--Beater: Beaters carry heavy wooden bats.  For this challenge you must craft something that contains wood as at least one component.

--Chaser: There are three Chasers on every quidditch team, who must work well together to lead their team to victory.  For this challenge you must craft three items that work together to create a whole.  (For example a pendant, earrings & bracelet)

--Keeper: Keepers must fly "close to home" to defend their hoops.  Craft something for your own home, or for the home of a loved one.

--Broomstick: For many witches and wizards a broomstick is a preferred method of transportation.  Craft something for your preferred method of transportation.  This could be anything from a steering wheel cover, to decorating your earbuds for a long bus ride, to hand-painted sneakers.

--Cheering/Spirit: Cheer on your house or favorite quidditch team by crafting something that shows your house/team pride.

*PENALTY SHOTS*
Quidditch is a rough game!  Time for you to take your penalty shot.  You can choose up to 7 shots to complete.  You may not repeat a shot once you've completed it.

--Blagging: Seizing the opponent's broom tail to slow or hinder. Craft something with a tail.

Blatching: Flying with the intent to collide.  Craft something that collides or combines two crafting techniques.

--Blurting: Locking broom handles with the intent to steer an opponent off course. Craft something that has handles.

--Bumphing:  Watch out!  Bludgers hit towards spectators.  Craft something that offers protection.

--Cobbing: Excessive use of elbows towards opponents.  Craft something that is pointy.

--Flacking: Pushing any portion of anatomy through the goal hoop in an attempt to push the Quaffle out. Craft something that has a pushed out or raised component.

--Haversacking: Chaser is still holding to or touching the Quaffle as it goes through the goal hoop. Finish WIP youve been holding onto. (only exception to quidditch crafting timeline)

--Quaffle-pocking: Tampering with the Quaffle somehow like poking holes in it so that it will fall faster. Craft something with holes.

--Snitchnip: Any player other than Seeker touching or catching the Golden Snitch. Craft something that is not your usual craft technique or material.

--Stooging: When two of a team's Chasers knock the opposing team's Keeper out of the way so that their third Chaser can score a goal easily. Craft something that is easy for you to make

Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans
A risk with every mouthful!

"You want to be careful with these. When they say every flavor, they mean every flavor - you know you get all the ordinary ones like chocolate and peppermint and marmalade, but then you can get spinach and liver and tripe. George reckons he had a bogey-flavored one once." - Ron Weasley

Its no secret that Hogwarts students love sweets.  And teachers, Headmasters & Headmistresses have been known to enjoy their share of treats too.  Therefore, your brilliant Headmistresses have devised an epic new *series* of Mini-Challenges for you.

Every two weeks we will pull a new bean out of the bag.  Each bean will be the inspiration for a mini-challenge.  Students may complete and post a craft based on that theme to earn extra House Points, and a Badge for that challenge.  Once a new challenge is posted, the old one is gone and cannot be entered.  As with all things in the HPC, you are welcome to do any, all, or none of these challenges.  They are just a way to inspire your own magical crafting adventures.

And this weeks bean is...
HONEY!

It's a virtual hive of activity around here as Queen Bee pinkleo & I try to get the last of the semester's happenings done.  We've been busy as bee's on Quidditch, BINGO, and this last Bertie Bott's Bean.  You might say this last one of the semester is the bee's knees.  It's as sweet as honey.  In fact, it IS honey!  For this challenge you must craft as our industrious little friends do, and create something from flowers.  This can be made of actual flowers, dried flowers, or include something floral in the motif.  I'm so buzzed up about this one, that I have an entire list of lovely Craftster crafted examples.

Create a Flower Crown with this awesome Tutorial
Cook up a batch of Lilac or Violet Jelly
Use some of summer's blooms to make a Pressed Flower Box
Crochet a Scarf of Roses to keep you remembering summer well into the autumn
Brew up some Dandelion Wine now to brighten your winter blues away
Try your hand at Coffee Filter Roses
Create the perfect touch for your Faire or Halloween nymph costume with a Poppy Mask
Hook up a Field of Daisies Afghan
Flower Power Earrings can brighten up your outfit
And why not a Daffodil Fused Glass Pendant to match?
Fabric Flower Hair Clips make lovely gifts for the young ones, or the young at heart

***Please forgive the bee puns.  I have a new student working for me and she is the undisputed Queen of Puns.  I blame her entirely.  Wink***

~*Detention in the Dungeons*~

This semester there will be three Detention Challenges, one for each month.  You are welcome to do any, all, or none of these challenges.  (Remember, they are just here to help get your crafty juices flowing!)  All Detention projects may be turned in anytime during the semester, regardless of what the newest Challenge is, up until the semester ends on August 31st.  (For example, you may turn in June or July challenges in August.)

June Challenge: Kitchen Duty
Darn!  Mr. Filch has caught you sneaking an entire chocolate gateaux out of the Great Hall, in an attempt throw a post Quidditch game party in your common room. Fortunately your Head of House has overruled his decision to have you hung by your ankles in the dungeons.  Instead you have been ordered to spend all of Saturday helping the House Elves in the Kitchens.  But with summer temperatures rising, the heat in the kitchens is getting unbearable!  Help keep the House Elves cool by whipping up a recipe that DOES NOT heat up the kitchen.  For this challenge you must post a picture & a complete recipe that does not require an oven or stove top.  You may make use of a microwave, crock pot, or toaster if you wish.  So what are you waiting for?  Share your favorite cool salads, microwave mug cake or summertime crock pot dinner, so we can all go outside and sit by the Black Lake!

July Challenge:
Ugh, Detention with Snape yet again.  He is loving keeping you away from Quidditch and your friends.  This week will be a repeat of last week; copying over old Detention Records.  To complete your Detention, you must finish a WIP (Work in Progress). WIPs can be projects that you just haven't quite finished or projects that you bought all the supplies for but never got around to actually making.  If possible, post before and after pics in the thread.  So get going!  The sooner you start, the sooner you'll finish and can go find out who won the Quidditch Match.

August Challenge:
It's the dead of August and you are out of school, and mercifully you are even out of the Dursley's house!  But while staying with the Weasley's does involve being fed 3 wonderful meals a day from Molly, it also means helping out with many chores.  This month Molly is frantically trying to get Shell Cottage ready for Bill & Fleur to move in after their wedding.  There's the garden, which is overrun with Chizpurfles.  A rogue Hippogriff seems to have built a nest in the attic out of musty old drapes.  And then there's the boring tasks like scrubbing the floors, raking the sand out front, and even sweeping out the hearth so it can be reconnected to the Floo Network.  Since there's no chance of sneaking off to the craft store for supplies, for this challenge, you must craft something either using some of the shells found around the cottage, or something inspired by shells & sea life.
