I'm having a heck of a time finding light to mid-weight pants to wear for work, as skirts and dresses won't always be appropriate once the AC gets pumping. At 5'9", the only challenge I should have is length but according to my measurements, I'm pear-shaped. A 27in waist and 38in at the hips.... but it's not my hips. I actually have snake hips, my rear is most of that measurement, which leads to gaping side pockets, pulling across my thighs, or a huge open space at the waistband.

Any suggestions for patterns to try that would fit that shape or even how to pick & fit thrift shop finds?  Otherwise, I guess I'll just live in yoga pants and skirts......

Go to the library and find a book on altering patterns for different body types.  The first go around will be where you work out all of your "issues", then after that you'll know better what you need to do to change a new pattern.  I suggest any of the books put out in the 80's/90's by the Singer company.  The pictures are totally dated, but they have a really good book on tailoring pants that fit.
