Welll, originally I had planned on waiting a few more years for my wedding....but some family circumstances came up and my mom needed the marriage certificate to be able to use my husband's signature in some paperwork (damn "not being related" bs lol) Sooooo we went ahead with a small ceremony at the courthouse (with a MUCH larger formal ceremony to be in a few years so the whole family can be here) =D

So since I found out the day BEFORE the wedding when we were expected to be at the courthouse ha ha, I pulled an all nighter and made this Yukata for my wedding dress =^.^=

My husband and myself together at a tree right after the ceremony (the courthouse had a lovely garden and fountain for pictures)

Frontal and back views of my Yukata =D

We got a nice downpour right as the wedding ceremony ended =D The walk home in the rain was AWESOME!!

Credit for the pink Obi goes to my mother, she made it in 2hours, and finished just before we had 5min to walk out the door!! We were in quite a rush so I didnt get the obi tied as tightly as I had wanted, but I still think it turned out great for being made over night in a hurry!

Hope everyone likes it as much as I do!! Now just to get the one for the little one made =D

I'm half tempted to write up a tutorial for this, the sleeves can be kind of tricky! =D

It looks great. Definitely can't tell it was rushed.

I'm really glad it turned out as well as it did, I've got a few seams on the inside I want to hem over again just to keep the cotton from fraying later, but overall I'm definitely proud of the quality of how it turned out in the end =^.^=

Congratulations!  You look lovely! Love the happy and cheerful pattern you chose...wonderful job on such short notice!!

watshi-wa okasan nihongi desu... so I appreciate the Japanese theme Wink

I can't wait to see your "public" wedding...I am sure it is going to be incredible with your making kimonos for you and your daughter...will you be shortening the sleeves now that you are a married woman? You won't need them to attract your man since you already have one! Grin Wink

BTW--your hair and your hair ornament are also very pretty

Even though I should shorten the sleeves since I'm married, I just LOVE the flowy look the longer sleeves have...so for my bigger wedding I think I'm going to keep with the longer sleeves =P I've got this georgeous red silk with gold embroidered bamboo stalks and cherry blossom branches thats going to be for my formal wedding kimono

watashi wa nihon daisuki! yukata to kimono totemo kawaii suteki desu ne! (pardon my misspellings, I'm still learning >.<)

I actually do, however, plan to make a formal kimono for my husband for the official ceremony when it happens =D (he wanted armor XD but I'm not quite that crafty loool!!) I still look at my yukata and cant believe I made it in 12 hours, I honestly dont remember half of it at this point ha ha!!! =^.^= I'm glad you like it alwaysinmyroom, I tried to keep everything as ....hmm...traditional(?) as possible (not sure thats the word I want to use xD but close enough) It's machine sewn instead of hand stitched but my hand stitching is terrible XD

ha ha I think you can do what you want...I don't follow the customs to the letter either! Wink  I adapt them for my lifestyle...I love the long sleeves and I make yukatas to wear as bathrobes/casual dressing during the hot summer months...uh, by machine...I am not sewing anything by hand if I can help it!

You did a great job...I know the sleeves and the band around the neck are troublesome...also, your mamasan did a fantastic job on the obi!!!

Do you have a picture of the fabric for your wedding kimono?  it sounds divine!

Unforuntately I dont have a photo of the fabric but I will certainly be getting one today! Our ceremony on the 22nd was such a rush we didnt get a chance to get our wedding bands (my mom was terrible upset over that), so my grandmother let us borrow her's and her husbands (which I'm returning to her today =D ), she's making my wedding kimono for me (since she may not be around to see the wedding...especially after all her recent surgeries) so I'll definitely snap a pic of it and post it here!

I plan on making a pair of okobo to go with my wedding kimono XD I cant wait to get the wood for that and get started! I'll definitely have to post up a tutorial for that once I figure out what I, myself, am doing with it haha!!

We used extra-heavy weight pellon interfacing in the Obi because the fabric was so flimsly it slid everywhere.... I think it did the trick =D though next time, I might use a regular heavy weight or a medium and coat both layers so it has enough stiff-ness but not so much its hard to manuever....

It took me a few minutes to figure out the neck band, but the sleeves defintely gave me trouble! Thankfully I figured it out without to much damage to the fabric, as I only bought 6yds of it and only had a few inches of scrap left after cutting out the pattern XD (I altered simplicity's pattern to make it more true to the way they are made, no crazy snaps or ties...though I should have lengthened it just a tad more, lesson learned for next time!)

I'm really happy with how it turned out, been wearing it around the house all day =D
Though honestly, its rather strange being seriously married haha, been calling him my husband for 5 years now and now (legally anyway) he's my husband in the eyes of the government to haha XD The "husband" jokes are abound in my house the past few days, its hilarious!

=^.^= I absolutely love my yukata, I wear it most every day just because I can!
I'm looking to go to one of the anime conventions near my state, so I may be making some more yukata's for cosplay purposes, but definitely NOT over night like I did with this one =D

Infact, its everyone's love of this outfit that has given me a little courage to perhaps enter the cosplay contest for craftmanship at the convention and show off my work a little....hopefully I get it in long before the contest and can get everyones opinions here first!! =^.^= thanks everyone for the compliments and congradulations it means TONS to me =)

It was terrifying and hard. I could not believe the amount of material involved. I will see if I can find the tutorial I used, it was a couple of years ago. None of the photos I have of her in it really show you how it looks properly because of stance and being partially covered.

I found this one, it doesnt look to bad.... but since you've already made one before whats your opinion of it?

I love it!!! These sleeves are very flirty and the whole style is absolutely your style. Are you going to make a similar dress for your big wedding?
Congratulations on the wedding!!! You and your husband look so sweet and cute and happy!
P.S. the people in my area are closed minded too, and I smiled imagining their reaction to a wedding dress like this, instead of the traditional white strapless A-line with beads Cheesy

I'd love to see a tutorial for this! I've seen various patterns for kimonos lying about - seems like the pattern is pretty simple - but I'm not so sure how I'd construct it. Please?  Smiley
