I finally bit the bullet and had some friends help me figure out how to sew with patterns.  We had a sewing party and all made the same top: http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/29405
It's a cowl neck with a yoke back.
It was easier than I thought, but still a bit hard to understand all the jargon.  But, voila! I did it anyhow  Cheesy (I might be hooked..)

Nicely done!  It looks great!

Looks like a very good choice for a first pattern.
Have you anything in mind for a next pattern?

Thanks, everybody  Smiley  I think the next project might be a skirt.. since it's suddenly skirt season here in Seattle.  I have a book called Sew What Skirts that doesn't use patterns, but teaches you how to draft your own based on a few measurements.  Anybody used this book before??

Skirts are one of the best things to sew if you want something quick and easy!  I rarely use a pattern for a skirt...if you use elastic, it is super easy, but I still prefer a waistband.

Can't wait to see your new summer wardrobe!

let us know if the book is simple!
